Arkansas’ Feel-Good Story Continues With Upset Of Texas

Permalink Tags:

One week = two upsets of Top 10 teams for Arkansas.

Yes, young teams are inconsistent and the Razorbacks will no doubt his some struggles in conference play.

Yes, both upsets came at home and the young Hogs will surely have some road woes to come.

But in terms of a feel-good story in the SEC so far: Arkansas’ twin wins over undefeated Oklahoma last week and over #7 Texas 67-61 last night make it clear that John Pelphrey’s team is the surprise of the league.

“Give Arkansas credit,” Texas’ Rick Barnes said.  “They made the plays at the end, and we didn’t.  I think Arkansas is going to have an outstanding season, but I’m just really upset abou the way we played.”

The game was a slugfest with poor shooting all around, but Wally Hall of The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette saw it as a thing of beauty for Hog fans.  Right down to the perfect tactical moves Pelphrey made with his defense.

With three-and-a-half to play, Stefan Welsh (left) nailed a wide-open three-pointer to put Arkansas ahead for good.

“We struggled around and fought and scratched and got through the first half,” Pelphrey said afterwards.  “And for the Razorbacks, if you just get out there and play hard and have a good attitude and keep the game close, some magical things can happen for you.  There’s just something about them.  They do fight.”

They sure do.  Just ask Texas and Oklahoma.
