ALABAMA FOOTBALL NEWS – 10/8/08

We start the Alabama portion of the day with a quick look back at Saturday’s Kentucky game.  Christopher Walsh of The Tuscaloosa News looks at 10 things you might have missed from the game, but I think his #1 item (penalties) might have been pretty dang noticeable.

Glen Coffee had a huge day on Saturday (25 carries for 218 yards), but he also fumbled twice… which didn’t sit too well with Nick Saban.  “It happened a few times last year and it’s something we need to address and we need to analyze and figure out why it happened.  Last week (against Georgia), it wasn’t a technical thing.  He got popped by a helmet right on the ball.  That’s going to occur on occasion.  I don’t know exactly what happened (against Kentucky) but we’ll look at it and technically and fundamentally try to get it corrected.”

The Tide was clearly suffering from a bit of a letdown against Kentucky (and that’s to take nothing away from UK’s effort).  “It’s hard to get up emotionally for each game,” linebacker Cory Reamer said.  “We’ve had some tough games, some great teams we’ve had to face.  To be able to rest a week is definitely helpful.”

Alabama has a much needed bye week this week.

Saban:  “There are plenty of things we need to work on in this bye week to try and improve our team, but I also think our team needs some rest right now.  Our team has played at a very high intensity level and they’ve played with a lot of toughness and they should be commended for that.”
