CHAVIS A LEADING CANDIDATE FOR CLEMSON; McCORVEY, HARBISON ONBOARD, TOO
Woody McCorvey, who had a South Carolina job yanked out from under him by Spurrier yesterday, has accepted an administrative role on Swinney's staff.
McCorvey, Mississippi State's offensive coordinator the past few years, will also be working with former MSU defensive coordinator Charlie Harbison... who's been hired as Clemson's defensive backs coach.
Who will Harbison be working under? Well, according to The State in Columbia, former Tennessee defensive coordinator John Chavis is Swinney's top choice. Chavis is interviewing today.
Chavis who has been rumored to be in talks with LSU, though he told our own Jimmy Hyams (below) that that's not true, is expected to bring former Tennessee defensive line coach Dan Brooks with him if he comes to Clemson.
Chavis is a South Carolina native.
If Chavis takes the Clemson job, Vic Koennig and Ed Orgeron might become the top candidates for LSU's defensive coordinator slot if/when Les Miles decides to make changes to his staff.
Koennig coached at Clemson until yesterday... and Orgeron is expected to join Lane Kiffin's staff at Tennessee at year's end.
How incestuous this all is.
(And by the way, doesn't that photo of Chavis seem to say "what the hell are you looking at?")
