Da'Rick Explains Name Pronunciation
Da'Rick Rogers has confused plenty of people with the pronunciation of his first name.
The wide receiver from Calhoun (Ga.) High School is committed to Georgia. He's received calls from plenty of schools hoping he'll change his mind.
Each coach probably changes the way his name is pronounced, too.
Rogers gave an explanation to Chip Towers of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
"I say DAY-rick," Rogers told the AJC. "But a lot of people want to say duh-REEK, because ti rhymes with my nickname, 'Da Freak.' So I hear that a lot. It kind of depends on where somebody's from. Country people say DAY-rick. People from the suburbs or the inner city say duh-REEK. I just answer to either."
Rogers said his first name could be pronounced any way other than Derrick.
More importantly to Georgia fans, Rogers maintains he's firmly committed to Georgia. He's heard recently from Florida, Tennessee and Southern California.
"I'm rock solid with Georgia," Rogers said.
