CAROLINA FOOTBALL NEWS - 11/6/08
Here's the news from Columbia today:You know how you you can tell if a defense is truly great? By checking to see if it has a nickname. In that spirit, Joe Person of The State wants to know what you think about "the Goon Squad," which some players are already using as an unofficial moniker.
One of the individuals helping to make the Gamecocks' defense more successful is linebacker Marvin Sapp... who is making the most of his senior season.
Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino is a big fan of Steve Spurrier. "I was pretty young in the profession. Went there (to Gainesville), spent some time, got all their video for a number of years, and really stole some ideas from him, implemented some of the stuff he's done." Saturday he'll get to go head-to-head with his personal Obi-Wan.
Spurrier has some interesting things to say about his legacy in Columbia. "Close losses years from now, they're nothing but a loss. If we're going to have a big year here, we've got to learn how to win close games. If we win some close ones and win a championship here, I'll have a pretty good legacy."
