AUBURN FOOTBALL NEWS - 9/22/08 (TIGERS NOT FARTING)

Don't worry about Auburn not learning from their loss to LSU.  According to defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads, the Tigers are taking Saturday's last-minute loss pretty hard.

"In the last 10 years, I've seen kids bounce back too quickly.  I've been on a lot plane rides where there's too much giggling and farting going on that shouldn't take place.  This team was still distraught today.  The loss affected them.  It bothered them."

Well, first of all, farting should NEVER take place on an airplane.  Second Rhoads also said his guys weren't "moping or puting," but "they understand what went wrong and hey're ready to go back to work."

Auburn's stalwart defense held LSU to just 105 yards in the first half, but when Jarrett Lee replaced a bell-wrung Andrew Hatch in the second half, things changed.  To the tune of 293 second half yards for the Bayou Bengals.

A sign of hope came on offense for AU.  Quarterback Chris Todd was 17 of 32 for 250 yards... which was more passing yards than 26 of Auburn's past 29 games.  Tony Franklin believes he should have thrown the ball even more, in hindsight.

Ray Melick of The Birmingham News writes that Auburn's season is far from over after Saturday's loss.  Remember LSU won the SEC West, the SEC and the BCS title last year with two conference losses.  The Tigers just need to grow up.  "We're playing a lot of freshmen and a lot of first-year guys," Tommy Tuberville said.  "We have a growing team and we knew that.  This is not a team with a bunch of fifth-year seniors.  This team has talent.  We're trying to put them together as quickly as we can."

Auburn's next game will be against struggling Tennessee on Saturday.  Whether they'll have tailback Brad Lester is a question at this point.  Lester is scheduled for more tests and scans of his right knee after awkwardly landing during a screen play last Saturday.

Nose tackle Tez Doolittle
will make his first career start agains the Vols after a good showing against LSU.  "Tez probably played the best game he's ever played," Tuberville said.
