CAROLINA FOOTBALL NOTES - 8/27/08
Okay, it's been a long day already and I've been posting off and on since dawn. So here are some one-liners on USC.
Steve Spurrier was coy when asked how much of a role Mike Davis' decision to break into a locked refrigerator in the team's weight room affected his decision to start Taylor Rank at tailback, not Davis.
In this "stock rising / stock falling" report, it's revealed that South Carolina is about to start a tradition called the "Gamecock Walk," which half the teams in the conference already do. The team will walk past the famed Cockaboose Railroad on their way to Williams-Brice Stadium on gamedays.
Laughing at the word "Cockaboose?" Well, try this story about a number of "cockominiums" that are for sale across from USC's stadium. Yes, they call them "cockominiums." Is there anything Carolina won't do with the word Cock?
South Carolina safety Chris Culliver originally committed to NC State, the team he'll be facing tomorrow night.
Culliver is far from the only North Carolina native hoping to make an impact for the Gamecocks.
Going in the other direction, former USC defensive end Shea McKeen will be on the NC State sidelines tomorrow... after running numerous legal issues in Columbia.
Carolina fans will see some big changes around Williams-Brice Stadium tomorrow. For my money, Columbia might be my favorite place to watch an SEC game.
And finally, Ron Morris of The State believes that Spurrier has built a sturdy foundation at USC. That's why he's predicting an 8-4 record for the Cocks with an Outback Bowl appearance tossed in.
