PELPHREY STARTS FOUNDATION BASED OFF HIS OWN PERSONAL TRAGEDY
Arkansas basketball coach and former Kentucky player John Pelphrey has begun a new foundation in Fayetteville, Pel's Pals, which will benefit children's charities with a strong emphasis on neonatal care.John and his wife Tracy lost their son John Patrick five years ago to a rare blood disorder.
At the time, they received support from Billy Donovan and then-Gator assistant Anthony Grant, who had both lost children themselves.
"It's bitter-sweet to know that we have three children that are in the same graveyard right beside each other. It kind of sounds morbid but, in our minds, you know, they're together," said Tracy Pelphrey.
Now, the Pelphreys hope that through their experience and through their foundation they'll be able to help children and their parents.
"It's not easy to go home at night and leave your kid hooked up to a machine and have an IV stuck in them. I can't explain to you what thoughts and feelings go through you," John Pelphrey said.
Here's hoping their foundation is a huge success.
