Get ready for what could be a humdinger of a college football opener in 2016. It was announced today that college football heavyweights Alabama and Southern California will kickoff the '16 campaign against one another at the Cowboys Classic in Arlington, Texas. The schools have met seven times since 1938 but the last meeting was in 1985.
For Alabama, well, it's likely Nick Saban's going to keep the Crimson Tide rolling right along. Southern Cal, on the other hand, has some rebuilding to do under new coach Steve Sarkisian. The end of crippling NCAA sanctions this season should aid the new guy's cause.
Also, if Lane Kiffin is still around Tuscaloosa for what would be his third year as Saban's offensive coordinator, he'd get a shot at revenge against AD Pat Haden who fired him and left him at the airport in the middle of last season.
Quality, quality matchup. Love it.
