I've tried be nice in all of this.  I said Vandy got dissed.  I then simply explained why they got dissed and even broke out TV ratings data to back it up.

But you don't believe me... or Vanderbilt's athletic director... or anyone else when they say attendance and TV ratings have a great deal to do with bowl selections.  Fine.  I've asked before for your explanation of why bowls do continue to overlook the Commodores, but you've really not given an answer... you've just dismissed the arguments made by me, Vandy's AD, etc.

So again, if not for attendance and TV ratings reasons, why do bowl games not fight to land Vanderbilt?

Either post your reason or please stop posting altogether.

(And no, as we've said, there will be no magic button to push, switch to flip, or attendance threshold to cross... it's a matter of reputation and it takes time to change those.)

I eagerly await your definitive explanation of why Vanderbilt is not the A-1 top choice of college football bowl committees.

When you post the same things for weeks under numerous stories, I think you've expressed your opinion.

If I don't respond to emails and comments, I'm a jerk.  If I do respond, I'm a jerk.  Either way, my words will be twisted and taken out of context.

Good luck in your bowl game,

First, that wasn't an admonition, a scolding or an insult (and I'm darned tired of saying it).  It was a statement of fact.  Sell out your stadium, take 10s of 1000s to bowl games this year and in the future, and continue to win until you become a TV draw.  That's how you improve your bowl lot.

Everyone but you knows that and says that.  And apparently AD David Williams is just as naive and wrong as I am.

This also isn't about a one-year blip... it's about years and years of history.  Georgia and Nebraska are better programs than Vanderbilt.  Bowl committees know it.  You may not like hearing it, but going to three bowls in three years doesn't turn a school into Notre Dame overnight.

I've written about this.  I've responded to you (and to a couple of VU fans who finally yielded via email).  But you're not going to get it.  So we're done here.

You've taken exception to a line that was not written with any ugliness or malice. It's a matter of fact statement. If Vandy fans want a better bowl, yes, I do believe they need to fill a 40,000-seat stadium at home (and so do James Franklin and AD David Williams), they do need to not only sell their bowl allotment but take over a bowl site like the Iowas and Nebraskas have traditionally done, and they need to become a better TV draw (a point you continue to completely ignore).

Your definitive explanation is that I'm right about home attendance (though you use an excuse that neither Franklin nor Williams use) and... nothing. You just say VU could fill up a bowl if given the chance. They need to catch a break. Those last two statements don't speak to why bowls don't pick them. And if you're saying it's true -- but unfair -- that Vandy's home attendance plays a role, you're basically admitting that you've been posting smart aleck responses under various stories because you don't like us saying something that you do actually believe. Perfect.

Look, both stories I wrote WERE nice. There was no ugliness in the first one -- though you seem to have read some attitude into it that wasn't there -- and the second one was just a "Please, listen to me," piece.

Best of luck in the BBVA Compass Bowl. Here's hoping that stadium is filled with folks in black and gold. If that's the case... if 30,000 VU fans descend on Birmingham, yes, I do believe the Dores' bowl fortunes will improve in the future.

But you should know I've gotten more than one email from Vanderbilt fans apologizing for your comments and telling me not to hold it against the whole VU fanbase. (I don't, by the way.) If that's the kind of representative you want to be for Vandy, so be it.
