The 2014 SEC Schedule Is Now Available

scheduleMike Slive and the SEC have released the 2014 football schedule and their choice of 8/21/13 as the release date has some significance:  “One year from today, August 21, 2014, the SEC Network will be launched, marking an historic day in the almost 80-year history of the Southeastern Conference,” the commish said via press release.  “One week later, the SEC Network will kick off the 2014 football season with a conference game between Texas A&M and South Carolina scheduled for Thursday, August 28 in Columbia, South Carolina.”

The 2014 schedule once again features the 6-1-1 format with one permanent foe from the opposite division as well as one rotating opponent.  The league continues to weigh what schedule format it should adopt for the long haul.

Each school’s league schedule is listed below, complete with immediate reaction/observations:

ALABAMA
Sept. 20 – FLORIDA
Oct. 4 – at Ole Miss
Oct. 11 – at Arkansas
Oct. 18 – TEXAS A&M
Oct. 25 – at Tennessee
Nov. 8 – at LSU
Nov. 15 – MISSISSIPPI STATE
Nov. 29 – AUBURN

The Tide will open conference play against Florida in an early-season doozy.  The back half of Bama’s schedule stays true to form with traditional rivals LSU, MSU and Auburn bringing up the rear.

ARKANSAS
Aug. 30 – at Auburn
Sept. 27 – vs. Texas A&M (Arlington)
Oct. 11 – ALABAMA
Oct. 18 – GEORGIA
Nov. 1 – at Mississippi State
Nov. 15 – LSU
Nov. 22 – OLE MISS
Nov. 29 – at Missouri

Arkansas’ new season-ending rivalry with Missouri will indeed kickoff next year in Columbia.  The Hogs also have a tough back-to-back with Alabama and Georgia in mid-October, but both games will be at home.

AUBURN
Aug. 30 – ARKANSAS
Oct. 4 – LSU
Oct. 11 – at Mississippi State
Oct. 25 – SOUTH CAROLINA
Nov. 1 – at Ole Miss
Nov. 8 – TEXAS A&M
Nov. 15 – at Georgia
Nov. 29 – at Alabama

The Tigers’ schedule appears to be quite dangerous with LSU, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Georgia and Alabama all on the docket.  Don’t expect to hear Auburn fans moan, however.  They like playing UGA every year and that’s part of the reason their schedule will be so difficult.

FLORIDA
Sept. 13 – KENTUCKY
Sept. 20 – at Alabama
Oct. 4 – at Tennessee
Oct. 11 – LSU
Oct. 18 – MISSOURI
Nov. 1 – vs. Georgia (Jacksonville)
Nov. 8 – at Vanderbilt
Nov. 15 – SOUTH CAROLINA

The Florida-Tennessee game — so long the traditional SEC curtain-raiser for both schools — gets dropped all the way back to October in 2014.  The Gators get a tough West Division draw with both Alabama and permanent foe LSU on tap.

GEORGIA
Sept. 13 – at South Carolina
Sept. 27 – TENNESSEE
Oct. 4 – VANDERBILT
Oct. 11 – at Missouri
Oct. 18 – at Arkansas
Nov. 1 – vs. Florida (Jacksonville)
Nov. 8 – at Kentucky
Nov. 15 – AUBURN

The Bulldogs won’t play an SEC home game between October 4th and November 15th.  Missouri, Arkansas and Kentucky will be road dates while UGA’s game with Florida will once again be a neutral site matchup in Jacksonville.

KENTUCKY
Sept. 13 – at Florida
Sept. 27 – VANDERBILT
Oct. 4 – SOUTH CAROLINA
Oct. 18 – at LSU
Oct. 25 – MISSISSIPPI STATE
Nov. 1 – at Missouri
Nov. 8 – GEORGIA
Nov. 15 – at Tennessee

The Wildcats will get a road trip to LSU as part of the 2014 rotation.  Also, the Vanderbilt game moves up the schedule.

LSU
Sept. 20 – MISSISSIPPI STATE
Oct. 4 – at Auburn
Oct. 11 – at Florida
Oct. 18 – KENTUCKY
Oct. 25 – OLE MISS
Nov. 8 – ALABAMA
Nov. 15 – at Arkansas
Nov. 27 – at Texas A&M

The Tigers land Kentucky as their rotating East Division foe in 2014.  So what might Les Miles and Joe Alleva complain about next spring?  How about the fact that that the Tigers will have to play at Auburn and Florida back-to-back?  Or maybe the fact that LSU will close the season with two straight road games?  Here’s guessing they’ll find something upsetting.

OLE MISS
Sept. 6 – at Vanderbilt
Oct. 4 – ALABAMA
Oct. 11 – at Texas A&M
Oct. 18 – TENNESSEE
Oct. 25 – at LSU
Nov. 1 – AUBURN
Nov. 22 – at Arkansas
Nov. 29 – MISSISSIPPI STATE

Ole Miss won’t play consecutive SEC home or road games all season.

MISSISSIPPI STATE
Sept. 20 – at LSU
Oct. 4 – TEXAS A&M
Oct. 11 – AUBURN
Oct. 25 – at Kentucky
Nov. 1 – ARKANSAS
Nov. 15 – at Alabama
Nov. 22 – VANDERBILT
Nov. 29 – at Ole Miss

Mississippi State gets a potential break with East Division foes Kentucky (permanent) and Vanderbilt (rotating).  Who knows who’ll be up or down a year from now, but traditionally, those are the East’s two cellar-dwellers.

MISSOURI
Sept. 27 – at South Carolina
Oct. 11 – GEORGIA
Oct. 18 – at Florida
Oct. 25 – VANDERBILT
Nov. 1 – KENTUCKY
Nov. 15 – at Texas A&M
Nov. 22 – at Tennessee
Nov. 29 – ARKANSAS

The open to Mizzou’s 2014 conference slate looks particularly daunting: South Carolina (road), Georgia and Florida (road) serve as the Tigers’ first three foes.  Will Arkansas replace Kansas as Missouri’s most hated rival over time?  We’ll start to get a feel for it next November.

SOUTH CAROLINA
Aug. 28 – TEXAS A&M
Sept. 13 – GEORGIA
Sept. 20 – at Vanderbilt
Sept. 27 – MISSOURI
Oct. 4 – at Kentucky
Oct. 25 – at Auburn
Nov. 1 – TENNESSEE
Nov. 15 – at Florida

Like his counterpart at LSU, Steve Spurrier always enjoys complaining about scheduling (usually right before he says he doesn’t really care about scheduling).  Carolina will open with Texas A&M and Georgia — tough — but both will visit Williams-Brice Stadium.  Sandwiched between those games and a season-ender at Florida are five programs Carolina would be favored to beat if they were playing this year.

TENNESSEE
Sept. 27 – at Georgia
Oct. 4 – FLORIDA
Oct. 18 – at Ole Miss
Oct. 25 – ALABAMA
Nov. 1 – at South Carolina
Nov. 15 – KENTUCKY
Nov. 22 – MISSOURI
Nov. 29 – at Vanderbilt

As noted above, Florida won’t be the Vols’ first SEC game next season as Georgia moves ahead of the Gators and the Gators fall into October.  The biggest change, however, comes at the end of UT’s schedule where Kentucky, Missouri and Vanderbilt wind things down.  For years UK and VU have served as the Vols’ final two contests.  Next year Kentucky will move up all the way to November 15th with Missouri sliding down the schedule.

TEXAS A&M
Aug. 28 – at South Carolina
Sept. 27 – vs. Arkansas (Arlington)
Oct. 4 – at Mississippi State
Oct. 11 – OLE MISS
Oct. 18 – at Alabama
Nov. 8 – at Auburn
Nov. 15 – MISSOURI
Nov. 27 – LSU

Texas A&M has wanted a Thanksgiving game to throw in Texas’ face and now they have one with LSU on schedule.  With so many games — college and pro — played on Turkey Day, it will be interesting to see when and where this game gets scheduled.  Perhaps on the SEC Network?  Also, Missouri will be back on A&M’s schedule again, but this time as a rotating foe, not as the school’s permanent East Division rival (which is now Carolina).

VANDERBILT
Sept. 6 – OLE MISS
Sept. 20 – SOUTH CAROLINA
Sept. 27 – at Kentucky
Oct. 4 – at Georgia
Oct. 25 – at Missouri
Nov. 8 – FLORIDA
Nov. 22 – at Mississippi State
Nov. 29 – TENNESSEE

Vanderbilt will be the only SEC squad to play three true road games back-to-back-to-back.  The Commodores will travel to Kentucky, Georgia and Missouri between September 27th and October 25th.

One other interesting tidbit on LSU vs A&M on T-day 2014.  With the stadium reconstruction, I think capacity will be 109,000 in 2014 because half the existing stands will still be standing.  Those get torn down between 2014 and 2015 season and get downsized to add in all the new luxury suits and finish out at 102,500 capacity.

So look for a massive record  crowd for LSU vs. A&M.

I am not looking forward to us adding texas AM. They really have the making's of a powerhouse, and I think there about to overtake LSU as the #2 to Bama. Certainly makes our schedule tougher.

@SouthernBoiSB Wanna trade SEC schedules with my Gators?  We could even swap FSU for GA Tech at the end of the year as well.  ..... No? ..... I didn't think so.
