Starting sophomore outside linebacker James DeLoach and freshman outside linebacker Davin Bellamy are out of practice for the time being after both suffered thumb injuries during a practice on Sunday. DeLoach was scheduled to undergo surgery for a sprained ulnar collateral ligament. It is believed he will be back at practice within a week. Bellamy broke his thumb and though he’s now had surgery on it and is also nursing a shoulder injury, he should be back for the Bulldogs’ opener at Clemson.
“You’ve got a lot of hand to hand combat in there,” Mark Richt said. “Your digits get pushed back sometimes, they get damaged. We’re going to clean them up with the surgeries and then club ‘em up to protect them.”
That, of course, means both players will be wearing mighty big casts for a few days/weeks.
