First USA Today Coaches’ Poll Of The Season Has Bama On Top, 4 Other SEC Squads In Top 10

ballot-boxFour weeks from the first games of the 2013 football campaign, USA Today has released its first coaches’ poll of the season.  When it comes to Alabama and the Southeastern Conference… same ol’ same ol’.

Alabama tops the chart having received 58 first-place votes.  Ohio State nabbed three first-place votes.  Bama’s rival in the SEC West, Texas A&M, got a first-place vote as well.

Overall, there are five SEC squads in the nation’s top 10 and six in the top 20:

*  While the SEC has five teams in the Top 10, no other league has more than two.

*  The SEC has six teams in the top 20.  The Big Ten and the Pac-12 each have five.

*  Vanderbilt finished last season #20 in the coaches’ poll, but the Commodores are not listed in the preseason poll.

*  Vandy was one of five SEC squads that did receive votes.  Those schools were: Ole Miss (32 votes), Vanderbilt (29), Mississippi State (3), Arkansas (1) and Tennessee (1).

Surprised at LSU's ranking, seems they should be higher (and OU).  To quote the late, great Al Ciraldo, 4 weeks til toe meets leather!
