Arkansas WR McKay Amicably Splits For Cincinnati

a-fond-farewellCredit new Arkansas coach Bret Bielema for allowing wide receiver Mekale McKay to transfer out of his first-year program.  McKay desired a transfer and Bielema granted his a release from his scholarship.  It was announced Sunday that the sophomore pass-catcher would be headed to Tommy Tuberville’s Cincinnati team.

McKay was Arkansas’ second-leading receiver last season with 21 catch for 317 yards.  While that might not look like much, McKay was expected by many to be a top target for first-year Hogs’ quarterback Brandon Allen this fall.  McKay, however, failed to lock down a first-team spot on Arkansas’ depth chart this spring.  He’s also been battling injuries in fall camp.  Obviously, McKay hadn’t progressed as much as Bielema and offensive coordinator Jim Chaney had hoped.

Whether the receiver was shown the door by Bielema or not, it’s a nice change of pace to read about a player transfer that doesn’t involve a number of “you can’t go there” schools.

I wrote a new LiveJournal blog post about 20 minutes ago, and have Facebook set up to import my blog posts. It’s already imported all my old ones; how long does it take for Facebook to check for new blog posts, and to import them to my Facebook notes?…
