Hogs’ Bielema Talks SEC Hype

gfx - they said itIn a long — and interesting — Q&A with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, new Arkansas coach Bret Bielema talks about everything from tweeting to his plans to recruit the state of Georgia.  And when asked if his new conference is all that it’s “hyped up to be,” the Hogs’ coach had this to say:

“It certainly appears to be that way.  We’ve done some film analysis, some breakdown of our first four opponents, as well as our first four conference opponents.  It’s very apparent that there are great players all over the place no matter which (SEC) school you’re talking about.  It seems to me that there’s a strong consistency of defensive linemen who are big, athletic and can run — maybe more athletic than we were accustomed to in the Big Ten.  I think the other thing that jumps out is the special teams play.  There’s a couple of players that jump out on film, no matter which game you’re watching.  (Guys that) can really run, very athletic, and very difficult to bring down in the return game.  But also there’s some tough guys to cover as they’re trying to cover their own kicks.”

In case you’re wondering, the four SEC teams Bielema’s squad will face are Texas A&M, Florida, South Carolina and Alabama.  Looking at tape of those teams should be eye-opening.  Each of them won 11 or more games last season.

" Each of them won 11 or more games last season." Hmmm. This is kind of a contrast to some of the trash talk the good coach was spewing when he first got the gig.

Welcome to the SEC baby, in your first third of the season you face coaches who won a combined 46 games last year, one national championship, one SEC championship, beat the crap out of the Big XII champion in a bowl game, and some other pretty impressive stuff that would take a while to mention.

Lets see how much trash talk you have in you around the second week of October.
