Sounds like Coach Richt is saying (without saying) what the fans have been discussing for quite a while now = 14 ain't working.
@ 4X4 pods, you would need 9 games: 3 against pod mates, 4 against paired pod, 1 each from pods 3 & 4. This allows you to go H/H with everybody every 6 years + keep rivaled games (UGA/AU, UT/UA, etc.....). The only trouble with that is how do you determine who are the last 2 teams from the other side? There has been talk about 1 perm. rival from each pod - which would have a balanced schedule to last until more expansion. HOWEVER, the whole "you play X while we play Y" debate will continue.....along with Strength of Schedule.
For the years you have 5 home games, your in-state rival (or whomever that is) would host you. When you have 4 home games, you host the in-state rival. This setup guarantees 5H/5A games every year.
However, he does have an argument about UGA/UF/USC/UK being only free for 1 (possibly 2) slots for any other kind of game.
I still would like to see each conference have 16 teams & every 2 years pair up 2 of those conferences for 1 game (H/H). Then rotate to another conference for 2 yrs.. That way EVERYBODY will play EVERYBODY & avoid the "they only schedule cupcakes" angle.
