With Alabama’s 42-14 dismantling of Notre Dame last night in the BCS Championship Game, the 2012 college football season comes to an end. If last night’s game wasn’t proof enough, the final polls are another example of SEC dominance. Seven SEC teams are in the top 25. Half of the top 10 comes from the SEC. Here’s the breakdown:
AP Poll: Alabama 1, Georgia and Texas A&M tied at 5, South Carolina 8, Florida 9, LSU 14, Vanderbilt 23
USA Today Coaches Poll: Alabama 1, Georgia 4, Texas A&M 5, South Carolina 7, Florida 10, LSU 12, Vanderbilt 20
Only Florida received a higher ranking from the sportswriters. Interesting that the coaches rank Georgia, South Carolina, LSU and Vanderbilt higher than their media counterparts. Two of those four teams – Georgia and LSU – played Alabama this season. Perhaps these video highlights were fresh in their minds as they cast their ballots.
