Coaching News

1. If Jeremy Pruitt leaves Alabama to become defensive coordinator at Florida State, he’ll become the 11th assistant to leave under Nick Saban.  Kevin Scarbinsky: “Continuity on a coaching staff can be highly overrated.”

2. Nebraska secondary coach Terry Joseph heading to Alabama?

3. Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo won’t say if he’s interviewed for other jobs.

4. Several schools have contacted Florida about their assistants.  Will Muschamp: “We’ve got a good staff and a lot of people want them to coach at their place.”

5. New Arkansas defensive line coach Charlie Partridge will make $350,000 a year. New coach Bret Bielema is making a point of paying his assistants: “I got a huge jump in my assistant coaches salary pool, which was big.”

6. Former Arkansas defensive coordinator Paul Haynes will reportedly be named head coach at Kent State.

7. Missouri makes it official – Josh Henson new offensive coordinator.  With a background in a pro-style offense, will Henson move the Tigers away from the spread?

8. Les Miles wants an early signing date for football: “I say give them a signing date in November.”

9. Praise and expectations for Kevin Sumlin and Texas A&M: “If you asked me which is most likely to win his national title in the next five years, Kevin Sumlin would be my first guess.”

16. Tennessee wide receiver Justin Hunter is bound for the NFL draft.  ESPN’s Mel Kiper sees him as potential second-round pick: ”This year he was good. He wasn’t spectacular.” Todd McShay has Hunter 22nd overall of draft-eligible players.

17. With Cordarelle Patterson also expected to leave Tennessee means the Vols face a depleted receiving corps in 2013.

26. Florida linebacker Jelani Jenkins and offensive lineman Ian Silberman will both miss the bowl games – recovering from surgeries. Freshman cornerback Willie Bailey has decided to transfer.
