Report: Tennessee Wide Receiver Justin Hunter Turning Pro

NFL draft analyst Tony Pauline is reporting that Tennessee wide receiver Justin Hunter is interviewing agents and will enter the NFL draft. The 6’4″ junior caught 73 passes for 1083 yards this year.  He’s one of three Volunteer players, along with fellow wide receiver Cordarelle Patterson and quarterback Tyler Bray, considered most likely to leave early for the next level.

Hunter has responded on Twitter.

Tennessee Tech wide receiver and former Vol Da’Rick Rogers announced Wednesday that he’s leaving school early for the NFL draft.

Hunter undoubtably has NFL talent but I don't think he completely recovered from last season's knee injury. From the outside looking in, he appeared to have recovered more physically than mentally. I don't recall him shying away from contact like he seemed to do this year on some occasions. Even with a season somewhat better than this one, I doubt that another year at UT would improve his draft position all that much, if any at all. For selfish reasons I would like to see him return but, if I were in his shoes, I would probably move on as well. I wish him much success in the NFL.

That's probably for the best.  Butch Jones needs a fresh start in Knoxville and while Hunter wasn't the problem that Bray or Rogers was, I had a feeling that he was playing all year with his mind on the NFL.  I would love to keep Cordarelle around one more year but it appears that he'll probably be declaring any minute now.

I'm fine with getting Bray as far away from our team as possible.
