In a short while we’ll post our full game previews for the weekend, but first, here’s the skinny on today’s traditional rivalry game between the Razorbacks and Tigers…
LSU at Arkansas
2:30pmET on CBS
Opening Line: LSU -13.5
Current Line: LSU -12
Storylines: LSU is 9-2 and still playing for a very good bowl bid, possibly even a BCS bid with some breaks. Arkansas’ bowl hopes are kaput and John L. Smith will be coaching his last game as the Hogs’ interim head coach.
Keys for LSU: Cash in on Hog Turnovers. Les Miles’s squad has been giving up yardage the past few weeks, but turnovers have been a saving grace. That could be especially true this afternoon. No SEC team has recorded more takeaways than LSU with 29 on the season (12 fumble recoveries and 17 interceptions). On the flipside, no SEC unit has more giveaways on the season than Arkansas with… 29 (14 fumbles lost, 15 interceptions thrown). In addition, if Tiger QB Zach Mettenberger can find his groove again, he should be able to throw all day on a Razorback pass defense that’s the worst in the conference.
Keys for Arkansas: Throw the ball wisely. Hog QB Tyler Wilson hasn’t had the senior year that most expected. (He can thank Bobby Petrino for damaging his draft stock.) In SEC play, Wilson still leads the league in passing yards per game (295.7), but his TD-INT ratio is just 12-8 and that’s nowhere near good enough to win football games in this league. On Senior Day in Fayetteville he’ll be facing an LSU squad that ranks 4th against SEC foes in terms of defensive pass efficiency. We’ve shown you just how important that stat is. For the Razorbacks to pull a stunner today, Wilson will need to take care of the football and get some help from teammates who too often appear to willing to just let him carry them. Some Senior Day magic is needed in this one.
Pick: LSU 34, Arkansas 17
