Dungy Talks Up UGA’s Murray, But Murray Not Ready To Talk NFL Yet

Ex-Super Bowl-winning coach Tony Dungy set off a Twitter-lanche which his comment when asked earlier this week who the Kansas City Chiefs should select with their first-round draft pick next spring.  His take: “I would take Georgia QB Aaron Murray if he comes out.”

Naturally, Dungy’s tweet got back to Georgia’s junior signal-caller who was asked about his plans:

“I don’t know.  I’m not thinking about that.  I mean I’ve had friend and everyone ask me.  I’m like, ‘I don’t know,’ I’m not worrying about that until after the season, and then I’ll sit down with my family and make the best decision for myself and for my future.

But I’m having too much fun right now.  This season has been awesome.  We still have so much ahead of us and so much excitement, I don’t have time to thing about anything else.  I’m just living in the moment.”

Asked if winning a championship this season might lead him to jump to the pro ranks, Murray said no.  “Multiple championships, I wanna get as many as I can.”

Georgia closes the regular season with Georgia Tech on Saturday and will then battle Alabama in Atlanta for the SEC title.  Win both of those games and it’s likely the Bulldogs will find themselves in Miami in January fighting someone for the BCS crown.

I don’t see it. Murray is a fantastic college QB and will end up owning several conference passing records when it’s all said and done but realistically, he doesn’t have the arm strength or size to guarantee himself first round money and justify leaving early. My guess is that he’ll exhaust his eligibility, keep polishing his game, and complete his graduate degree to boot. Given what Georgia’s losing on defense next year, they’ll need him. He’s the kind of guy you think of though when you hear the term “field general” and he’ll definitely get his shot at the pros eventually.
