A&M’s Closing In On Gainesville Billboard Buyer

Just got a very nice note from Texas A&M’s vice president of marketing and communications, Jason Cook.  According to Cook, the school is “getting close to identifying the purchaser” of the smack-talkin’ billboard that went up in Gainesville and sent the sports world careening off its axis today.

If/when the culprit is identified, here’s hoping he’s not actually an Aggie-backer who decided to taunt the University of Florida in its own hometown.  ‘Cause if it is an A&M supporter who paid for that billboard, I’ve got a feeling he’s gonna be excommunicated from the Church of the 12th Man.

Stay tuned…

Personally, I just thought it was pretty damn funny.  It just suprises me that so many SEC fans/media... who have been more than willing to publicly disrespect A&M/Mizzou ever since they were admitted into the league... suddenly get their collective panties in a bunch as soon as there is even a little bit of push back from A&M/Mizzou fans/players/etc.

Why is the "investigation" into who is responsible for the billboard taking so long?

The billboard is owned by Clear Channel.

Clear Channel is owned by Lowery Mays.

Lowery Mays is an aggie.

Seems pretty simple to find the invoice in question to see who paid for it. Unless of course it would be too embarrassing for aTm to confirm that it was in fact another dumb aggie.

Can we give these d-bags back to theBig12?? This is a very bad fit for our Conference. But at least I know all the Aggie jokes that are sure to become commonplace in SEC country having grown up in Texas. BTW, they always bring it on themselves.

I hate that some jerk sandbagged Texas A&M with this billboard. It may or may not be an Aggie but regardless, I am also surprised that the troll sucked in a professional blogger as easy as they did. I have really enjoyed this site but I am not going to log in on a site that bashes the Aggies and pulls for an opponent to whip their fannies. I thought you guys were neutral! How did you respond to the tree poisoner? Did you brand all Alabama fans as idiots? I hope they publish the name of the perps that paid for this sign. By the way, I have been an Aggie for a long time and this is the first time I ever heard the phrase "Aggie Nation". Sounds like an Indian tribe or something. Back to Texags.

I think you protest too much Texas!  When somebody does something like this, they can't keep their mouths shut.  That "name I will not mention," who poisened the Auburn tree had to let people know he did it.  Eventually, the truth will surface.  Baylor? Texas? FSU? demented Aggie or Gator own?  I think it was Col Mustard, in the Library with a pipe.  What a weird, strange situation!  Let's play football this Saturday!!!!!  You've got to admit, this is a new one.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM SHAGGYBEVO.COM REGARDING OUT OF STATE TEXAS A&M BILLBOARD ADVERTISING

"It wasn't us. We're too busy trying to keep some pothead named Troy Gast from showing up at the office, so we're trying to keep things low key. But good luck to President Loftin in finding the real culprits behind this, and to OJ Simpson in his quest to find the real killer."

It was not an Aggie. The language used is all wrong for Aggies. It was a poor attempt to make A&M look bad. Probably by either Baylor or Texas fans. My bet is Texas fans because their obsession with A&M knows no end.

The fact the a t-sip is on here defending the undisclosed perpetrator tells you exactly who did this.  Indications are pointing to a ShaggyBevo.com "secret" forum set up to carry out this Shenanigan.  Oh "We're not your rival..." Oh "A&M doesn't matter"... well t.u. has been butthurt ever since A&M decided to step up the level of competition and SECede.  Texas fans just acn't stand that their little school in Austin is not the center of the sports Universe, or America, or in Texas for that matter.

Why would the billboard company disclose who purchased the sign?  What phrase or slogan is trademarked on it?  It's just hyperbole anyway.

When the truth comes out (and it will) this prank will be at the feet of someone connected to UT-Austin or Baylor. We Aggies have way too much class for something

this foolish. This idiot must be related to the same sob that poisoned the oak trees at Auburn. This kind of crap is exactly why we left the big 12-4+2. Pure jealousy

is the reason. We have way too much respect for our new conference brothers to throw rocks like this.

Clear Channel was founded by Lowry Mays (Aggie) and Red McCombs (Longhorn) in 1972.

The company was taken private by Bain Capital, LLC and Thomas H. Lee Partners in a leveraged buyout in 2008. The company now operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of CC Media Holdings, Inc..[5][6]

Goodbye to Lowry and Red.

On October 2, 2011, Robert W. "Bob" Pittman was named CEO of Clear Channel.

Get your facts in order.

Texas A&M had nothing to do with this and has made it abundantly clear of that.   No true Aggie would do this as well.

Somebody is trying to stir up the pot ahead of the game.  It just was not an Aggie.

I'm not "defending" anyone, dumbass.  You didn't answer my question, "why would the billboard company disclose that information".  They're under no obligation to do so.  If it turns out that a "t-sip" from ShaggyBevo was the perp...I'm embarrassed for him because he's obviously got more money than brains.  If it was a Former Student...likewise.

"Conference brothers"...that's rich.  Apparently, dealing behind your Big 12 "brothers" backs was okay though, huh?  Apparently, you don't matter to The University, Aggy, because you're not on our schedule...in any sport.

Delusional, as always.  Pooooor Aggies

you mean like the billboard aggy fans put up in waco?  or the multiple billboards tamu put up around the state claiming "sec country"?  SUPER classy!

Facts? We don't need no stinking facts. Personally, if this turns out to be done by a non-Ag, then it goes down as a really good prank. Wish I would have thought of it. Just how many places could Florida use one of these? What a riot!

The Big 12 sold the SEC a bill of goods.  And not good goods either.

You  need to check your diaper son, you're the one who's delusional in this discussion. You and your frat rat brothers just cannot stand it when the spotlight is not on you and delost. We have the right to seek a better conference affiliation without anyone's permission in Austin. Sour grapes on your part STFU

@JB TexasEx   "Apparently, you don't matter to The University, Aggy, because you're not on our schedule...in any sport."

Perhaps you should post that on ShaggyBevo's entire subforum dedicated to discussing A&M...or one of the several multiple-paged threads about A&M on Shaggy's front page.

@FTAG 76 Well it IS SEC Country, just like the rest of the State of Texas... get used to it; it's a 100 year decision.  The difference is we were poking fun at old rivals that deserved it; not antagonizing a near-term future opponent...  I'm not saying the billboard in Waco was classy, it wasn't; but it was at least justified... the one in Gainesville (regardless of who paid to have it displayed) is not justified.

The ones in Austin were just advertising for football recruits and other future Aggies in Austin.

Successful troll is successful. You do realize that when the SWC fell apart that t.u. tried hard to go the Pac right? t.u. has always considered themselves with the west coast schools and not with Southern land grant institutions, and you know what everybody is fine with that and I hold no ill will over preferences.......as far as this billboard, the truth will come out eventually. True Clear Channel does not have to reveal anything but they do all the time when it comes to political billboards, in fact they revealed to the media about one up here in Gainesville, TX so it is not above the realm of possibility.

@JB TexasEx  @FTAG 76  @SpreadsheetAg The Texas athletic department gets $9.98 million per year from ESPN for the LHN. Every school in the Big 10 gets between $11-13 million per year from the BTN. Your network that no one watches, has already been surpassed in revenue. I can assure you that every SEC team will make more off the SEC Network than what Texas gets from the LHN. I will be shocked if the LHN lasts more than two more years. There is only so long you can continue to throw money down a hole.

JB TexasEx

 @SpreadsheetAg

Unlike you wannabes, we don't get our self-worth through conference affiliation.  Nobody sane can convincingly argue that the Big 12 is "better" than the SEC (even with the help of the Sagarin Ratings).  The SEC is on top right now in football.  Of course, aggy contributed zip to this success.  That doesn't keep them from chanting, ESS EEE CEE at every opportunity.

But, many idiotic aggies will claim that A&M is better than The University.  In what way, exactly?

JB TexasEx
JB TexasEx

 @FTAG 76  @SpreadsheetAg

"Better" in what way, Gramps?  So you can claim football championships by association?  Don't say money, b/c neither CBS nor ESPN has agreed to renegotiate your TV contracts.  If/when the "SEC Network" (code-named Project X) comes to fruition, you may sniff the dollars UT will bank on our television contracts.

GFY, Pops.  You ass-clowns weren't the SEC's first choice.  Just the best option available.
