Kentucky’s 8th Title Banner Is Up In Practice Facility

Cat fans, another banner is up.

Tomorrow the University of Kentucky basketball team will travel to the White House for the traditional handshake-and-howdy with the President as the reigning NCAA basketball champions.  But back in Lexington, photographs of UK’s eighth national championship banner are starting to make the rounds.

Last month, after capturing yet another title, Kentucky fans roared during a Rupp Arena celebration in which Banner #8 was officially raised.  But another eighth banner is now up in UK’s practice facility, the Joe Craft Center.  (Photo at left, click the story headline for a closer look.)

Alongside the banners from 1948, 1948, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996, and 1998… the latest banner from 2012 now dangles.

It's anything but the traditional handshake John.  ESPN is covering the event LIVE on ESPNU with Andy Katz being there.  There is also going to a follow up special the week after on ESPN for this event.  Did Bama have ESPN show their visit?  #kentuckyeffect

The coverage may be over the top, but I'm guessing you're going to see the President make a couple of wise cracks, the coach hand him a #1 jersey, and then the Prez and the team all pose for a group photo.  That's indeed the traditional shake and howdy...  whether Andy Katz is wearing a jetpack on his back and a satellite dish on his head or not.

Thanks for reading,

@John at MrSEC While I hate these manicured celebrations and can't bear to watch them, congratulations to Kentucky. 1 title is impressive, 8 is just the definition of cool.

And I think ESPN covers Bama differently. Some of those guys think 8 titles and a visit from Prezbo is cool, but 13, or 26, or however many rings the Tide has might be just showing off......
