New Tabs And Pages For Missouri And Texas A&M Are Up

Well, as you can see we’ve jumped the gun and officially added Missouri and Texas A&M to the SEC’s roster of schools before they officially join the league.

In doing so, I wondered what the first responses would be:

A.  Thanks from A&M and Mizzou fans?

B.  You’ve got the colors all wrong?

C.  Why don’t you just list the schools in alphabetical order?

D.  You shouldn’t use abbreviations?

Well, it wasn’t A.

Just so you’ll know, we’re still tweaking the placement of the tabs — all centered or all left-justified.

Also, the colors were plucked straight from the official websites of each SEC school.  So if the color looks wrong to you, email your favorite athletic department and ask them to fix their sites.

The schools are listed in alphabetical order by their usual name — Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss — for example, but we chose to use abbreviations so the writing would be much larger and easier to read.

The abbreviations used are those used by the universities themselves, thus MU for Mizzou and UM for Ole Miss.

Finally, depending on your computer — Mac or PC — your browser and your computer’s color settings and pixel settings, your view of the page might look different from someone else’s view of the page.

We’ll keep tweaking where we feel we need to and we’ll do so in relation to the feedback we get from different computer users, different browser users, etc.

Many thanks… and welcome to MrSEC.com officially, Missouri and Texas A&M.

The Management

I'm late with this but thought I'd drop it in here..  I would put them in the same order as the pennants are arranged on the SEC logo, alphabetically by state -  which I think would mean only switching around the 'M" schools from what you have now.   Love your site, and really love the sight of MU A&M tabs on the site!

Been following the site for a year now.  Amazing work.  Not officially SEC until recognized by MrSEC.  Thanks again.

I do have one suggestion….can we have MIZZOU in the middle and twice the size of the rest of the teams. I would really like to have Georgia on our left and have Arkansas on our right with you having the taps some how bowing down to us, it will be just another recruiting tool for us :) Just joking….I really like the upgrades and I honestly flipped out when I saw MU up there. Thanks for all of the good coverage!!

The only suggestion that I would have would be to center the school tabs. I think that looks better. As much as I would love to have Bama shoved into a corner, it just does not fit work right if you ever want to click on the tab because it is so far to the left of the page. The home tab you can click on further out. As for the A&M color, it is brighter than the uniform colors. The uniform colors are a dark maroon. However this is probably the color that is on the websites for A&M. The same with UT. Our uniform Orange is different than our advertising and web orange. Why? The actual true orange used on the uniforms is a pale orange. If you used while lettering on that orange, it is extremely hard to read. Hence the reason that our uniform numbers are sometimes lined in black. General Neyland actually did that on purpose because on black and white film, the numbers were almost impossible to make out. This made it harder for other teams to scout his teams. On the field it looks good (if you like orange), but on TV and film it is a bear to read if not lined. Just like A&M maroon. The maroon on the field just does not have a pop in print and on the web, so it is made "brighter" to allow it to stand out. Either way, it is so much better than cow hide orange used at TU.

Hooray!! Thank you sincerely from a MIZZOU fan! I know I was one of those guys chomping at te bit, anxious to see that tab up there (heck, I 'may' have sent you an query email about it a few weeks back, that you graciously replied to. Anyway, I was on a mini vacation with my young twins past few days, and only just now got to visit the page! No complaints here! Just a hearty THANKS for making us part of your blog!! (& early too!)

I'm glad you finally put A&M and Mizzou up.  I like A&M being the abbreviation but I really have to call shenanigans on you claiming you used the shade of maroon from our official school website (tamu.edu).  The color you picked looks much more crimson than the maroon we have on the site.  I have checked with an iPad and three different computers on multiple web browsers and non of them look the same as the official website.

I'm amazed that this is such a huge deal on Day One?  We said we'll tweak over time.  We could have gone without school colors or team pages as most other sites do, but we chose try and incorporate both.

I write for this site and am part-owner, but I'm not the artist.  We have an artist who was given the official websites for each school.  That artist went to those sites and grabbed the appropriate colors.  He then -- if you'll notice -- gave each button highlights and lowlights so that they are not simply "flat" colors.

I've asked him to go back and look at the highlights he used for A&M and one other school to see if it looks like a match to him on both Mac and PC units and in 6 different browsers on each system -- because the site looks different in just about every one of those cases.

If he finds that he needs to darken or lighten a color, that's what he'll eventually do.

For now, I repeat what was said in the post above... we got 'em up early, we tried to use alphabetical order, we tried to use easy-to-follow abbreviations, and the school colors were indeed nabbed from each school's website.  And we'll tweak when necessary.

Hope you'll have some patience with this.  Or realize that we're talking about a button that's less than an inch in size.

Thanks for reading the site,

John

Thanks for giving us our buttons!

If he wants to be exact, the 'official' Aggie Maroon is precisely specified on http://brandguide.tamu.edu/print/aggieMaroon.html as Hex: 500000, RGB: 80,0,0.

Of course, you're absolutely correct it will come out differently depending on the computer system used.

Hold the presses! I noticed the change this morning and wasn't sure how to send you my thanks. So, I posted in the Missouri Season Ticket change thread. Check that time and, perhaps, the first response was A!. In any event, thanks much.

Having been anxiously awaiting this wonderful day, when I would see "A&M" at the top of my favorite blog page!  "A&M" is, btw, absolutely the best tag for us...you got that right, and the color is fine, too. Speaking of colors - what Ag wouldn't be happy to visit a site where the "orange and white UT" is reference to our newer and finer conference brother! Thanks, John, for jumping the gun and for the fair and welcoming coverage you have given us Aggies.  I, too, wandered here long before the SEC deal was done, and have become an ardent reader (though I rarely post - shy, you know!)  Keep up the good work (and ignore the complainers :-)

Been coming here ever since the rumors started of Mizzou's move last year, when you guys were giving us fair coverage and good information. This site has become regular reading for alot of the folks on the Mizzou message boards, I suspect it's the most popular source for SEC news among the MU fanbase online. Appreciate the work you guys do, and glad to see Mizzou now officially in the fold!

The colors look right to me.  The only suggestion I would make on that front is that Carolina and A&M just need to go ahead and admit that they, too, wear crimson.

@I4Bama While I admit they look similar on my iPad, Aggie Maroon is definitely darker than Bama Crimson when you seen the uniforms side by side.

Mizzou fan here. I love the site, been lurking here every day since last August, but never needed to post. Finally signed up for an account to say "Thanks for giving us a tab," it would break my heart to think you might feel unappreciated.

The wall of comments we've gotten via email have been like the ones described above.  No one has to say, "good job."  But the "bad job" posted under every story does get a little old.  This being a free site and all.

Thanks for reading,

John

John, thanks, but I thought you were just tweaking it in preparation of doing it in the future, so was thinking you were not finished yet.

Thoughts :

a) TAMU is the official twitter and web site www.tamu.edu - would TAMU be better than A&M?

b) my vote would be CENTER the school buttons, and LEFT for the Home / Recruiting / etc / etc buttons

We're trying to keep all the abbreviations to 3-letters or less in order to make them all big and clearly visible.  A&M is an obvious abbreviation for Texas A&M, I think.

@John at MrSEC John you are 100% correct to use A&M and not TAMU.  Though the university uses it for some things (probably to avoid problems that can arise with "&" in some cpu applications), Aggies don't generally go around using TAMU as their self-identifier or slang.  Gig em.

ps, I did not intend that as a live link because of previous discussions, but your software / program made it one.
