Blanchard is the only prospect committed to Arkansas’ class of 2013.
Wide receiver Austin Bennett and running back Jamel James were both committed to the Razorbacks until coach Bobby Petrino was fired on April 10. Both players have left open the idea of signing with Arkansas in February.
New head coach John L. Smith will likely try to create some momentum on the recruiting trail with the pledge from Blanchard. But even Arkansas recruiting coordinator Tim Horton admitted Tuesday the Razorbacks will have their work cut out with the 2013 class.
“There are some challenges,” Horton said. “Let’s don’t try to kid ourselves. We just have got to get to December and January and still be in the hunt on some really good players.”
That could happen. Arkansas is still expected to have a strong team this fall and Smith should be familiar with many of the prospects on the Razorbacks’ recruiting board. That’s why Smith is hitting the ground running.
“Our expectations are the same,” Smith said. “Nothing’s going to slow down. In fact, we’re going to speed up.”
