MSU Is Moving Ahead With Stadium Expansion

Mississippi State got approval yesterday on some new renderings of an expanded Davis Wade Stadium.  According to Brandon Marcello of The Jackson Clarion-Ledger, the school will likely begin construction in early 2013 with the work to be completed in time for the 2014 football season.

The project will add 6,000 seats… many of which will be “premium seating.”  The price tag?  Try $80 million.  (With that expense and Rick Stansbury’s retirement package — which is being handled with private money — one has to wonder how much cabbage State will have to offer a new hoops coach.)

Below is a video released by the school that shows the overall plan for expansion.  If nothing else, all this proves that even the poorest — and we use that term loosely — athletic department in the SEC has plenty of cash to toss around.

New stadium plan looks nice.

Unlike the new football facility which was built completely with private donations, the $80MM for the stadium expansion will mostly come from bonds so I doubt this will affect the new coaches salary at all.

You'll just have to learn to live with the snarky comments from John. Seems he's quite full of them when posting about MSU lately.

Where was there a snarky comment?  I asked if State's spending spree would have any input on the coaching search.  That's pretty legit.  Especially since most athletic departments get much of their money from a few, key mega-boosters.

If someone's kicking in to pay off Stansbury and to help with stadium construction, how much would they have to kick in for a new coach?

That's not snarky.  That's a legitimate question.
