Mark Fox used to work with Trent Johnson on the staff at Washington in the early-90s. Fox then worked for Johnson on his staff at Nevada. And when Johnson left to become the head coach at Stanford, Fox moved up to replace his old boss. Johnson even introduced Fox to his future wife.
Clearly, the two have a history and a friendship.
But Johnson says that relationship won’t mean a thing when Fox’s Georgia squad visits Johnson’s LSU team tomorrow night in Baton Rouge:
“There’s a relationship there, but he’s as competitive as all-get out. He’s going to be miserable if things don’t go well for him, and I’m going to be miserable if things don’t go well for me. It’s not like we’re going to hug and kiss when we get out there.
He has a job to do just like I do in terms of trying to get our kids prepared to do the best we can. But I like playing people I don’t like as opposed to people I have a lot of respect for.”
Makes you wonder which SEC coaches Johnson doesn’t have respect for, no?
