Missouri Gets A Nice SEC Welcome From LSU

Just a quick thumbs-up to officials at LSU who are helping to promote interest in Shreveport’s AdvoCare Independence Bowl this year.  The game will feature North Carolina taking on the SEC’s newest member, Missouri.  For that reason, LSU has placed ads in Northwest Louisiana — photo at left, click the headline to enlarge — encouraging Louisiana residents to support their new neighbor.

“From the LSU Tigers to the Missouri Tigers, good luck in the 2011 AdvoCare Independence Bowl.

Shreveport, come out and support the newest member of the Southeastern Conference!

Welcome to the SEC.”

Welcome to the SEC, indeed.  Bet Missouri didn’t get much of that type brotherly love from the University of Texas.

Now, it wouldn’t surprise us if Mike Slive and the SEC office encouraged LSU to make the gesture, but either way, it’s a fine one.  From the school and the league.  Kudos.

Everyone will accuse you of cheating and insult the hell out of you at SEC “family functions,” Missouri.  Know that.  But when it comes to dealing with outsiders, you’ll find that the SEC sticks together a whole lot better than other leagues.  Especially the league you’re leaving.

Thank you LSU! Thank you SEC! Looking forward to being new members of the SEC. Would the Big 12 -4 have done this gesture? You can bet your sweet a$$ they would not have given it one ounce of thought. The Big 12-4 imlodes the minute Texass and OU decide to join another conference and/or Texass goes independent! Can anyone spell dysfunctional??? If you are ku grad absolutely not! Thanks again to both the LSU Tigers and the SEC!

So excited to be in the SEC...the best conference in the country!

ku Puts up ads falsely claiming they own KC.

Texas and ESPN put up ads everywhere promoting the LHN.

LSU puts up banners supporting Mizzou in their bowl game.

Good Riddance B12, so glad to be in the SEC.

I know who I'll be rooting for in the NC game. Geaux Tigers!

Take MIzzou. Cause here's the deal. Neither the Big10 nor Pac-12 wanted 'em. You can have their mediocre football program. You can have their over-hyped, non-existent basketball tradition (Never been to a Final Four!). Basically you're getting another Kentucky, minus the basketball tradition. Or maybe South Carolina. You know....one of the many SEC schools that never really does well in football, or any sport for that matter.

This is a very classy gesture by LSU. Proud to be the newest member of the SEC!

Super classy by LSU. Nothing like that ever happens in the B12. SEC baby!

I see that Missouri just a got a committment from the top rated OG in the 2012 class. That's a big get. You'll need him for those D-Lines in the SEC.

Diddo TigerinMO, very impressed. Thanks LSU!!! Extremely excited about all of Mizzous athletes competing in our new conference. Hope the wrestling works out also.

I'm totally impressed by this gesture. Southern Hospitality at its best. I understand that goes away at gametime, but it is so nice to be in a conference that displays some class. The Big 12 is all about Texass and OU, and nothing else matters.

Bobby outside of BB, KU sucks. And you are not that good this year in BB. Baseball - sucks, Football - sucks, Track and Field - sucks. No swimming at all - thank to Lou Perkins. So when you end up in the Mountain West when Texas decides to go it alone, think back on this year when Mizzou decided it was time to go!!!

So your primary slam is against Mizzou and the biproduct slam is against alot of the other SEC programs. DOnt think you will make any friends around here like that. Gamecocks.....recent National Champions in baseball, dont know about anybody else but that is pretty impressive to me. Typical jayhock. How many last/next to last place finishes do you guys have in all athletics combined bobby? Definitely the most in the big 12. This year alone soccer, volleyball, oh yeah and football too(but that was last in the nation, not bad there little fella). Not sure how you did in cross country but I do know you finished below Mizzou. Stick to the KCSTAR posts with turksub. ku minus hoops = D-II. Stay tuned cause the Final 4 will come in the near future.

Border War so far this season MU-12.5...ku-ZERO.

@KSQRDKS Seriously? NOTHING classy like that happens in the Big 12? Are we forgetting when the Longhorn band paid tribute to the A&M students who tragically passed away during the bonfire incident? Or when they bid A&M farewell in the final UT vs. A&M match-up and wish them luck in the SEC? This is why we're not upset about losing Mizzou. At least you could win some games in the Big 12. Good luck doing that in the SEC. And you all say the Big 12 is all about Texas and OU? Isn't the SEC all about LSU and 'Bama?

Just got a TE from Florida today too, Culkin. He probably wouldn't have come to Mizzou if we didn't make the move to the SEC.

@StevenBrew Bobby is just butt hurt because he is stuck in the dysfunctional Big 12 and sees us escaping to greener pastures. Pure jealousy. And the fact that he would post that crap shows a typical B12 lack of class.

Way to prove my point big12supporter. "This is why we're not upset about losing Mizzou." "At least you could win some games in the Big 12" "Good luck doing that in the SEC" ...real supportive. Oh and giving a moment of silence or a tribute for another school's tragedy is expected even if you are a hated rival (the fact that this qualifies in your mind and used as an example of something proactively supporting another member institution is quite telling.)

Regarding winning in the B12, I guess going in the last 5 regular seasons against B12 foes 27-14 does not count in some sort of alternate Texas universe

-- 5-4 this year

-- 6-2 last year

-- 4-4 in 2009

-- 5-3 in 2008

-- 7-1 in 2007

You are correct the B12 being all about Texas and OU. Funny how you go from defending the B12 (as weak as your argument was) to attacking Missouri and attacking the SEC. It seems as you were writing your reply you ran out of material so just decided to try and sling mud. Too funny.

LSU is having obviously an incredible year and are preparing for their own national championship hopes and they take the time in order to take out an ad in support of a new member just says something about them in my mind........luckily we are all entitled to our own opinion still. I have simply not seen this in the B12. From where I sit it seems to be quite the opposite with schools publicly lashing out against each other trying to make the other members look bad in order to raise their own stocks. The SEC seems to be a more collective stock........again just my opinion.

@KSQRDKS The rifraff comes out of the woodwork. Go back to the B12 boards where you belong.
