Weekend SEC Hoops Round-Up

Alabama (5-0) — Beat Wichita State 70-60 on Friday and then topped Purdue 65-56 yesterday to capture the championship of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament.  Next game: versus Alabama A&M on Wednesday

Kentucky (4-0) — John Calipari’s squad knocked off Penn State 85-47 on Saturday and Old Dominion 62-52 yesterday to win the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic in Connecticut.  The Cats survived ODU’s slow-down tactics on Sunday.  Next game: versus Radford on Wednesday.

Georgia (3-0) — No games last weekend.  Next game: versus #22 California tonight.

Auburn (2-0) – No games last weekend.  Next game: versus Nicholls State on Friday.

Tennessee (2-0) — No games last weekend.  Next game: versus #6 Duke this afternoon.

Mississippi State (4-1) — The Bulldogs upset #16 Arizona 67-57 on Friday — a night after knocking off #18 Texas A&M — to win the 2K Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden.  Next game: versus Louisiana-Monroe tonight.

Ole Miss (3-1) — Ole Miss slipped past Drake 63-59 on Friday and then were thumped by #19 Marquette 96-66 at the Paradise Jam in the Virginia Islands.  Next game: versus TCU this evening.

Vanderbilt (3-1) — Kevin Stallings’ team snuffed out NC State 86-79 on Saturday.  Next game: versus Oregon State tonight in the title game of the Legends Classic in New Jersey.

Arkansas (2-1) — The Razorbacks fell to Houston 87-78 on Friday night.  Next game: versus Utah Valley tomorrow.

Florida (2-1) — No games last weekend.  Next game: versus Wright State tonight.

LSU (3-2) — Trent Johnson got a pair of needed wins over Western Kentucky (76-57) on Friday and Georgia Tech (59-50) on Saturday.  Next game: versus South Alabama on Wednesday.

South Carolina (1-2) — The Cocks dropped their second game this season to a small school when Tennessee State bested Darrin Horn’s team 64-63 in Columbia last night.  Next game: versus Mississippi Valley State tomorrow.



I like how Alabama is playing. This could be a very good year for us.
