SEC Stat Analysis: Pass Protection

As we continue to roll out some late-season statistics, Pass Protection is up next on our list.  Sacks Allowed is a nice state, but it really doesn’t mean much unless you put it in context.  Our Pass Protection number does that.  And it doesn’t take an advanced degree to figure it out.

Total Pass Attempts divided by Sacks Allowed shows us how many passes a team can put up before being sacked.  Easy, right?

This is not just a measure of an offensive line’s ability, though clearly that plays a role.  But sacks can also be the result of receivers not getting open and quarterbacks not making quick decisions.  So keep that in mind as you look at which SEC teams have offered the best pass protection this season.

Wow. Arkansas replaced 3 starters on the O-line and we've only had 8 sacks all season? That shows how smart and how tough Tyler Wilson is more than how talented the line is. He often releases the ball an instant before taking a huge hit.

8 sacks in conference play. I think we gave up 7 sacks in the first three cupcake games. It says a lot about how much Petrino's team improve as the season goes on.
