Meyer Says He Has No Plans To Coach Again

Former Florida coach Urban Meyer has become the most talked about potential coach at two of America’s top football programs — first Ohio State and now Penn State.

But Meyer poured a sprinkle or two of cold water on such talk yesterday when he released this very short statement:

“I am very happy with my role at ESPN.  I have no plans to return to coaching at this time.”

The “At this time” part will definitely get cause the most talk.

We at MrSEC.com have maintained that we do not believe Meyer will immediately jump back into coaching next season.  We could be wrong — as we were in expecting a half-game suspension for LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu this week — but Meyer’s comments regarding his family and their reaction to his departure from coaching suggest he’ll spend at least one more season at home.

We shall see.

The man had serious health issues when he left UF. I don't think he'll ever return to coachng and risk aggravating his health problems.

He didn't have any real health issues. Whatever symptoms he did experience were stress-related. He's not built to handle the pressure cooker that is the SEC unless he's got all the right talent(Tebow-esque players). I'm not sure about the Big Ten culture although he might fare a little better there. He's more suited to be a coach at some non-AQ where he can win games with a system rather than talent and superior Xs and Os. Either that or a program with lesser expectations.

That all might sound a little cynical, but he claimed to have had heart palpitations after the 09 SECCG and yet he didn't quit then. He didn't leave until it was proven he couldn't win without the right QB. Reports are that his "heart palpitations" were acid reflux.

He's picking his spot. Looking for his next QB. Without that special guy he's toast. He said as much when he was going to Florida.

Hopefully Penn State and Ohio State are not looking at Meyer. He got a pass from the media because of Tebow but while he was at Florida he was winning the SEC fulmer cup. More arrests than the program ever had. So little attention to his program that a star was suspended going into the SEC championship game against Bama. Not a guy that OSU or PSU can afford to have at their program.

Wow, really John?

Roll Tide! comes on here trolling and posting blatantly false and easily proven wrong statements, and you delete my post pointing that out?

Clearly, you have the right to do whatever you want on your site, but wow, that's beyond pathetic.

You've just lost a reader.

Has anyone gotten him on record to say why he's covering Big Ten games? I assume there is a reason why someone with his options would willingly commit to spend every weekend wathcing B1G football with Chris Spielman.
