Apologies In Advance…

The other day I was telling a comrade that it would take me until January to stop thinking about the SEC basketball standings in divisional terms.  This morning, I made my first reference to the no-longer existing SEC East.

It likely won’t be the last time I write of the West or East.

Until we hit SEC play and I start looking at that standings board day after day, I’m going to slip.  Guaranteed.  It’s the price of growing old.

So apologies in advance.

They should have changed the cross-divions rivalries as well, easy to get confused when you look at the schedule (ie, we are playing the full h&a of all traditional SEC foes, and just one game vs SEC West teams). When we get to 14, I say you get 3 permanent teams as H&A, you play the other 10 SEC teams just once a year. UT calls KY, Vandy and either Georgia or Bama for 3rd permanent rival.

I just told someone how awesome the SEC East was in basketball and how that it is just the opposite in football. He didn't call me on it so there is 2 more people screwing it up. You are not alone. John, What benefit des the SEC get from this move?

From a perception standpoint, it's believed the NCAA tournament selection committee will invite more SEC teams come March. If they see a team like Alabama last year, mired in a poor division, that works against the Tide on Selection Sunday. But, now, with one standings board for everyone, a team like Alabama might not be viewed as the best of a bad bunch.

That's the idea anyway.

Thanks for reading,
John

It's taking some getting used to,wonder if they'd of known 14 teams would be the norm they wouldnt have made this change.
