Spurrier Compliments Bama At Expense Of McCarron

Consider it a case of Steve Spurrier being Steve Spurrier.  Asked yesterday about the strength of Alabama and LSU, the Ol’ Ball Coach attempted to compliment the Crimson Tide.  It just so happens he slighted their quarterback in the process:

“Alabama and LSU are definitely the two best teams in the SEC, at least right now.  Fortunately, we don’t play either one of them.  Anyone know who the Alabama starting quarterback is?  I don’t. … That just shows you that on a powerful team, the quarterback is not the key player at all.”

For the record, AJ McCarron ranks fourth in the SEC in passer rating.  He’s completed 67% of his passes for 1,380 yards with 9 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Carolina’s quarterbacks under Spurrier’s tutelage have completed 57% of their passes for 1,403 yards with 10 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.

He may not know who the QB is at Alabama but we all know who the QB isn't at SC. I can only hope Bama gets a chance to play Spurrier and his Cocks in Atlanta. Some paybacks are in order. And yes, I am counting my cocks before they hatch.

Shouldn't someone who thinks the QB has to be Zeus-like while on the field. Fails to see Alabama has Atlas and Hercules needing 6&7 player pile ups to stop them

Of course Spurrier being a former QB himself would make a comment like that.

Just can't please you elitist sportswriters....either a coach is "boring", "dry", "doesn't ever really say anything", etc or they get criticized for attempting to make specific comments. Any wonder why coaches get testy with the media? For the record, I watched that press conference and Spurrier was trying to drive home the message that Alabama plays as a TEAM...if you watched it, you know darn well he wasn't talking down their QB. Shame on you, but not surprising!

Don't be so touchy, BamaDave. If you know Saban he's not ever going to have a flashy game changing QB like many people thought AJ would be, or have a team who depends on a QB to win a game. Just isn't going to happen. Spurrier is just saying BAMA plays and wins as a team, and you should be thankful we don't have to depend on one player to win games for us.

Was so fun to see Carolina dominate an over rated bama team last year...just like the 2nd half of the Auburn game
