Carlos Watkins Set To Announce

Defensive tackle Carlos Watkins from Chase High School in Forest City, N.C., is set to announce his college decision on Friday night.

Watkins will choose between Florida and Clemson.

“We had our meeting (Monday night) and he’ll give me something certain by Wednesday,” Chase coach Daniel Bailey told the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. “He’s got a couple of things he needs to think on. He pretty much knows where he’s going. He feels pretty certain when he makes his decision on Friday it will be where he’s most comfortable and where he can get a chance to play and win ballgames.”

Clemson had appeared to be the favorite to land Watkins until last week. That’s when he returned home from an official visit to Florida and declared the Gators his new No. 1 school.

“I would have to say Florida’s ahead, to be honest,” Watkins told 247Sports last week. “That trip really opened my eyes.”

It’s the only official visit Watkins his taken. He has visited Clemson unofficially.

Bailey said Watkins has been paying close attention to the two teams’ seasons. Clemson’s 6-0 record to start the year could be an advantage over Florida, which has a 4-2 record after losing its last two games to Alabama and LSU.

Watkins is considered the nation’s fifth-best defensive tackle and No. 44 overall prospect by 247Sports.
