UF’s Muschamp Suggests Bama’s Just Another Game

The theme for the week in Gainesville will be normalcy as undefeated Florida prepares for a visit from undefeated Alabama.  At least that will be the case if Will Muschamp has his way.

But in reality, you can expect stories about Muschamp’s supposed rift with ex-boss Nick Saban and Saban’s alleged ugly comments to Muschamp’s mom.  The sideshow will be about revenge, bitterness and anything else we in the press can dig up.  But the real show — according to UF’s first-year coach — will be a football game.  And the Gators plan to go about business as usual:

“We just worry about Florida.  Really, at the end of the day, we’re going to take care of the University of Florida.  We’re going to be fine versus everybody we play.  Starting with Alabama. … They’ve got a good football team. We need to prepare the same way we’ve prepared earlier in the year.  Each week make sure your preparation is your motivation in what you do.  Prepare well for the game, and, we’ll play well.  The same sort of preparation.  They all count for one.  Alabama’s got a good football team, but so do we.”

Blah.  Boring.  Bland.  That may frustrate the heck out of the folks doing talk radio, but Muschamp has even beaten that message into his players’ heads.  On Saturday after UF’s win over Kentucky, sophomore Ronald Powell referred to Alabama as “another nameless, faceless opponent.”

Maybe that’s what Saban his Crimson Tide are for Muschamp and crew — just another game.  But to be safe, the Gator coach may want to make his parents off-limits to the press this week.

John, you don't take criticism very well, now do you? Like I said, you run a great site, but where you get off base is taking a particular point of view regardless of the facts.

This is your headline;'

"Muschamp/Saban Split Not As Amicable As They Say"

Is this misleading? Not if one does not read the whole article you reference. You do use exact quotes , but YOU FAIL TO DISLCOSE ONE IMPORTANT SET OF FACTS. To wit, here is a exact quote from later in the article;

"Muschamp's parents denied rumors that Saban forced him out, and both Muschamp and Saban said they had no major problems while with the Dolphins. "

John, 95% of your articles and replies are intelligent, thoughtful, rational, objective and friendly. The other 5% of the time when they are not tends to sully your site and your reputation.

Jass, John has beat that particular drum before. When the story first broke, he quoted an article that discussed this riff between Saban and Muschamp's parents. Now, this site is one of my favorites, but when John gets a hankering for a particular point of view, he will hammer that view no matter what the facts might be.

I have no doubt the story is true. But what John fails to disclose is that in the same article that discusses the riff, it is also reported that Will and Nick have discussed the matter and it is not an issue between either men nor is it an issue with Will's parents.

Now, John will no doubt claim something like; 'Hey, it is not my point of view, I am just anticipating what OTHER writers will concentrate on!" All the while fanning the flames of this particular non-story.

As you mention, there are a lot of interesting lines to this game. New coach vs. mentor, two great rushing defenses against two great rushing offenses, etc. It is a shame that this kind of nonsense gets play.

20 bucks says this is the only site in the country this week to bring up Saban and Muschamp's parents. John, how about some analysis of Demps and Rainy vs. Alabama's vaunted defensive front seven?

John, you just gotta read between the lines. If Muschamp says Bama is just another game then that means he doesn't think they are anything to worry about.....just another ho hum day at the office. There's your dramatic storyline right there!

-Muschamp Disses Saban and Bama-

Come on, do I have to write it for you?

oh sure

playing against his mentor Saban, and his best fried in Kirby Smart ?

He did it a few years ago in the NC game when Texas played Bama... but now this is his show and his first shot at a "signature win"

not to mention recruiting battles that will be fought between Bama and UF over the next few years. This is a very very very big game, for both schools

MJWIlliamson...

I don't take criticism well when it's bogus and based in "everybody hates my school" nonsense. The suggestion that I'm trying to stir something up -- when the point of the piece was just the opposite -- ticks me off.

And you are are the one who is twisting things. The split was NOT amicable as the headline states. Two years later they went back and patched things up, but there were some hard feelings there. To the point that Muschamp's father used the term "SOB." Now, I suppose the headline could have read "Muschamp/Saban Split Not As Amicable As They Say... But A Couple Of Years Later They Worked Out Their Differences And They Say They're Cool Now," but I really didn't have room for that.

In addition, we included A LINK TO THE STORY. If I was trying to mislead, I wouldn't have included the full story for everyone to read.

Not everything is a conspiracy. And I'm dadgummed ticked that you would say that take a particular point of view "regardless of facts." That's as big an insult as you can throw at me.

I invite you to read and write as much as I do in a single day and then get back to me with your critique. I think you'd be surprised how often you'd write a quick summary of an article an post it only to find that someone else has misread it, read something into it, or taken it entirely too seriously.

And you're completely offbase. All we wrote on that story at the beginning was this:
http://mrsec.com/2011/08/muschampsaban-split-not-...

It was link to The Palm Beach Post and a summary. No drums were beaten. No points were hammered home. That was the only mention on this site until today.

I find it incredible that I rip the MEDIA in this piece -- include myself as being part of it -- and state that these guys will be asked about this kind of nonsense. Sadly, some folks too dense to understand what I'm writing took offense to THAT because they thought -- due to their "everyone's out to get my school" garbage -- that I was trying to rip Muschamp.

Best part of my job -- writing for the 95% of our readers who are intelligent, thoughtful, rational, objective, friendly people.

Worst part of my job -- writing for the other 5%.

touche- now that i really think about it (and take some liberty with the actual facts) I do agree that was a huge slam, he basically called Saban a joke and said that he, Will Muschamp is solely responsible for Saban's rise to fame and defensive accolades

That dirty SOB is going down this weekend!!!
