SEC Headlines – 9/20/11 Part One

1.  Charlie Weis’ likes to script Florida’s first 12 to 24 plays each week… and it just so happens the Gators had their best success against Tennessee in their first two drives.

2.  Recently-arrested linebacker Dee Finley will be back with the team on Saturday, but some injured Gators will not be.

3.  Safety Matt Elam received fines and community service for an underage drinking charge.  Egad!

4.  Georgia is just 1-7 in its last eight games away from Athens.  Ouch.

5.  UGA AD Greg McGarity says he doesn’t know how SEC expansion will play out.

6.  Joker Phillips says he’s just as angry as Kentucky’s fans regarding the Big Blue’s rough start to 2011.

7.  This writer says Phillips needs to channel his inner-Rich Brooks to turn things around.

8.  South Carolina athletes and prospects received $55,000 in improper benefits according to the NCAA.

9.  Meanwhile, USC has gotten a $4.4 million contribution to build walkways around Williams-Brice Stadium.

10.  On the field, Gamecock defensive back Victor Hampton will return from a three-game suspension against Vandy.

11.  Derek Dooley let his team have it after a poor practice yesterday… and then declined to speak with the media for the first time since arriving at Tennessee.

12.  The Vol coaching staff is trying to fix UT’s woeful rushing attack.

13.  Vanderbilt is trying to prepare for the noise they’ll endure at South Carolina on Saturday.  (They better cue up this sound effect… for my money, the best in-stadium sound clip in college sports.)

14.  The Dores may be 3-0, but they’re not getting much love from SEC beatwriters.
