Vols Add Safety To 2012 Class

Many people expected LaDarrell McNeil to commit to Oklahoma State on Monday.

That’s why there was so much surprise when the safety from Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas announced his commitment to Tennessee.

“He surprised me and his mom,” McNeil’s father, Vincent, told GVX247.com. “I had no idea. He talked about the choices he had, but he never did just say (what he was doing). We were kind of surprised, too. From what I understand, he loved the coaching staff (at Tennessee). He loved the environment. He loved the facilities.”

McNeil, who’s ranked the nation’s third-best safety by 247Sports, is the second defensive back to commit to UT this week. The Vols picked up a commitment from cornerback Kenneth Crawley from Washington, D.C., on Sunday.

UT has 15 commitments for the class of 2012.
