Two SEC Prospects Commit Elsewhere

Two prospects considering SEC schools committed outside the conference on Monday.

Offensive lineman Will Adams from Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Ga., committed to Georgia Tech over an offer from Kentucky.

“It was down to Georgia Tech and Kentucky,” Adams said, “and I kept thinking, ‘What does Kentucky have that Georgia Tech doesn’t have?’”

What Georgia didn’t have was a scholarship offer for Adams. The Bulldogs fan will now be playing for his favorite team’s biggest rival.

“The fan in me wanted to play for Georgia,” Adams said “But the rest of me wanted to go to a school and play football where I was wanted. I could say some things about Georgia, but they got who they needed on the offensive line. You know, that’s fine how everything worked out. I just realized maybe that Georgia was not the place for me. Once I had that thought in my head, I realized that it wasn’t the place for me. Then my decision for Georgia Tech got so much easier for me.”

Sheldon Dawson’s decision to commit to Memphis was far from easy. The cornerback from Memphis (Tenn.) Ridgeway High School decided to stay close to home rather than travel across the state and play for Tennessee.

“Like I was headed to Tennessee, but I just felt in my heart that it wouldn’t be right because I love my city,” Dawson said, according to Scout.com.

Dawson is the second SEC prospect to commit to Memphis in the last week. Quarterback Will Gross from Memphis Melrose High School chose the Tigers last week.

“I saw another top-25 recruit who wanted to stay here at home and help Memphis out, so I wanted to do the same thing,” Dawson said of Gross. “Many may say we’re making a bad decision, but we just believe. We believe in Coach (Larry) Porter, and we believe we can help him get the job done.”
