NCAA May Change Text Message Rule

In an attempt to prevent recruits from getting thousands of text messages from drooling coaches, the NCAA outlawed text messaging from coaches to prospects four years ago.  Unfortunately, that’s led to wave of secondary violations involving texts all across the country.

Now the NCAA is considering changing or dropping the texting ban.  Georgia recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner thinks it’s about time:

“I think they’ve got to go in and re-look at some of the legislation.  Now everybody has these unlimited data packages and that’s the way kids communicate.  I think the NCAA has to recognize it.  You’ve got to be able to change with whatever is going on in society.”

On June 29th it was learned the the SEC had sent the NCAA a letter of recommendations regarding possible rule changes.  One of the rules the SEC favored changing — the text messaging ban.
