Cousin Of Brandon Spikes Commits To Florida

Florida has received a commitment from defensive back Rhaheim Ledbetter from Boiling Spring (N.C.) Crest High School.

Ledbetter, who’s the cousin of former Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes, chose the Gators over offers from South Carolina, Auburn, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Clemson.

“It did really come down to Florida and South Carolina but Florida is just where I want to be,” Ledbetter told “They are like family. That is what my family thinks is best for me as well. The whole coaching staff is great. There is just something about Florida that I love.”

Florida would have seemed like an easy choice to many considering Ledbetter’s connection to Spikes. Ledbetter insisted that played only a small role.

“That didn’t really have that much to do with my decision,” Ledbetter said. “I’ve talked to him about it and he has always told me to do what is best for me. It didn’t play a big role but I will say it did have a little to do with it.”

Rhaheim, who is Florida’s 14th commitment for the class of 2012, is considered a four-star prospect and the nation’s ninth-best safety by

The Gators had long been considered the favorite to land Maye.“I would say Florida has always been in the picture,” he said. “It was pretty much between Florida and Florida State.
