Carolina Inching Closer To New Video Board For Williams-Brice Stadium – the Rivals site covering South Carolina athletics — reports today that USC’s board of trustees will be asked on June 17th to give an initial okay to a $6.5 million video board project for Williams-Brice Stadium.  Athletic director Eric Hyman told the site that the project is designed with Cock fans in mind:

“In the time I’ve been here, the video board is something the fans have expressed a lot of desire to have.  This is a way we can give back to them and tell them thank you for their support. …

You never assume anything, but I think the board members are very receptive to going forward with the project.”

A battle over the video board could be brewing however.  Board member Eddie Floyd — whose name is on the Kay and Eddie Floyd Football Building which houses the football offices — is reportedly taking a firm stand with regards to spending on the project.  Could that be because the current video board at Williams-Brice is attached to his building and is considerably smaller than the proposed new board?  Maybe Floyd doesn’t want his own gift to Carolina covered up by an even bigger toy.

The athletic department’s goal is to complete the video board project in time for the 2013 football season.

Stay tuned.
