Athlon Posts SEC Predictions

The good folks at AthlonSports.com have posted their predictions for the SEC’s football race this fall.  The teams they see meeting in Atlanta are surprises, but the predicted finish for one defending division champ might open some eyes.

Think the Stephen Garcia situation at Carolina had anything to do with that third-place finish and .500 conference record?

The fact that Bama is viewed as the West Division favorite and as — obviously — a national title contender isn’t surprising.  But it seems a hair far-fetched to pick a squad that’s still not selected a starting quarterback as the undefeated champ of the SEC.  Eleven or 12 wins?  Sure.  13-0?  That’s gutsy.

If you’ve done the math at home, you know Athlon has Alabama knocking off Georgia in Atlanta for the SEC crown.

Bama's D is stacked and you know what they say....Defense wins championships.

LSU should be higher than Bama, they can say all they want about the QB being an issue at LSU atleast they all have game time experince, even Zach Mettenberger who is better than Jefferson, Bama's QB's zero experience....and yeah a team can get lucky sometimes and win with a first time QB but still

I agree. LSU should be ahead of Bama in a preseason poll. But by the time these teams meet Nov. 5th experience should not be an issue. The game will be won or lost in the trenches with the winner likely going to Atlanta.

Obviously Mr. Athelon has forgetten to do an assessment ofthe 2011 UGA OL.

Auburn at 6-6? Sounds about right to me. Will Auburn be satisfied at 6-6 for their 3.5 million dollar man?

You tell us BleedzCremson, was Alabama satisfied with there 5 million dollar man when he went 6-6? Or when he lost to UL- Monroe?

Alabama 13-0.....that's funny more like 9-4

I'll tell you what is funnier still, the odds of Alabama going 9-4 are actually better than Auburn's. But I'm not worried, the chances of Bama loosing 4 games are pretty small and the chances of Auburn winning 9 games smaller yet.

Yeah, I mean, how can anyone pick them to go 13-0 when they are breaking in a new starter at QB. We all know what happened the last time they had to do that, right? 2009, Greg McElroy.... on yeah, that's right, NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

Tider...

Didn't say it couldn't happen. Said it's a gutsy pick. Which is exactly what you would probably say if this were any time not named Alabama.

Thanks for reading the site,
John
