Georgia Signee Has Fun Encounter With Country Music Singer

Ray Drew probably didn’t expect anything big to happen when he attended a concert by the Charlie Daniels Band in Valdosta, Ga., earlier this month.

Drew, a Georgia signee from Thomas Country Central High School in Thomasville, Ga., was attending the show with his younger brother. Drew and his brother waited in like many other fans to receive an autograph from Daniels.

While they waited, fans began to recognize Drew.

“There were other people in line that found out that I was going to play football at the University of Georgia,” Drew told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “and they started asking me for autographs while I was waiting for Mr. Daniels.”

Daniels noticed the crowd around Drew and found out he’s a future Georgia player and has a background as an ordained minister. Daniels was impressed and decided to share Drew’s story with the crowd.

“Ray Drew, where are you?” Daniels asked while he was on stage at the concert.

Daniels then invited Drew up on stage.

“Mr. Daniels said he was proud of the fact I was a minister,” Drew said. “He said if I was ever down and needed someone to pray with, just to give him a call.

“(Daniels) asked if he could say a pray for me. He did, and then I said a pray for him and his band ‘for safe travels.’ Then we left. It was a good time and lots of fun.”

Good story. And a refreshing one.
