Comings And Goings On UM Basketball Team

Andy Kennedy did some shuffling yesterday… and for his sake he’d better hope he weren’t Titanic deck chairs he was moving from spot to spot.

First, the much rumored return of Murphy Holloway has been announced by the school.  The player who transferred from Ole Miss to South Carolina last season is now transferring back to Oxford.

“When Murph informed me of his need to go home and take care of his personal responsibilities last year, I supported his decision,” Kennedy said.  “When he then asked me to come back and join our program after his family situation had improved, I welcomed him back with open arms.  We look forward to seeing him back in an Ole Miss uniform.”

He “supported his decision,” huh?  I seem to recall him not granting Holloway a release to play at Carolina or Clemson forcing the player to walk-on and pay in-state tuition.

Now Holloway will have to be granted a waiver from the NCAA to play immediately upon his return to the Magnolia State and that might be a long shot.

In addition to Holloway, UM announced the hiring of assistant coach Al Pinkins from Middle Tennessee State and the promotion of Bill Armstrong from coordinator of operations to assistant coach.

According to the school’s press release: “Pinkston and Armstrong fill coaching positions left vacant by Michael White, who was named head coach at Louisiana Tech, and Torrey Ward, who is pursuing other coaching opportunities.”
