Chizik: Trotter And Moseley Still Neck-And-Neck At QB

Spring practice is half over, but Auburn coach Gene Chizik isn’t ready to give one man an advantage in his quarterback race.  Chizik said yesterday after reviewing film of a weekend scrimmage that there’s been no movement in the battle between Barrett Trotter and Clint Moseley.

“It could end up being the last day of fall camp,” Moseley said yesterday.  “I just have to be prepared for anything.  That’s the biggest thing.  If I have my mindset right and do all the small things right I just feel like everything will take care of itself.  If it takes to the end of fall camp or whenever it is or if I don’t win it, I just have to be prepared for anything.”

Moseley and Trotter are splitting reps with the first-team in practice.

“Either way it’s going to be tough for the other person whoever doesn’t win it, for sure.  He’s a really good person and I know he’ll handle it the right way, and he thinks the same of me.”

Moseley knows that if he does win the starting job, no one will mistake him for Cam Newton.

“I think I can manage the offense.  Cam was such a different quarterback, literally like no one we’ve ever seen before.  I think I bring a more conventional (style), like what Gus has always had.  Just somebody who knows the offense as well as he does.  That’s what I’m trying to do right now.  I’m getting close.”

For now, close is he operative word.  As in: Moseley and Trotter are still close in the eyes of AU’s coaches.
