Report: Pearl Announcement Coming Soon

VolQuest.com — the Rivals site covering Tennessee — has just reported that UT athletic director Mike Hamilton and Bruce Pearl have met today and that an announcement is expected to come later this afternoon regarding the coach’s future at the school.

According to our sources close to the Tennessee program, Pearl will likely be offered a $2 million parting gift.  The remaining issue is as follows:

If Pearl goes quietly, takes his money and accepts the NCAA’s accusations, UT might be able to get a summary disposition (a quick ruling) which would allow the school to chase a new coach and tell him what sanctions he’ll inherit.

If Pearl decides to fight some of the NCAA’s charges — even if he’s fired by UT — the Vols won’t get a summary judgement.  Everyone has to agree on the facts before the NCAA will provide a quick ruling.  So Pearl has some leverage here.  Can Tennessee pay him and his assistants enough to go along with things?

According to VolQuest.com, we might know something today.  One way or the other.
