MSU’s Stansbury Defends Sidney & Handling Of Sidney Situation

Renardo Sidney may have been the biggest gamble of Rick Stansbury’s career.  So far — as Brad Locke of The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal puts it — “Sidney’s shortcomings this season — on and off the court — have made him an easy target for critics.”

The fact that Stansbury has seemingly coddled Sidney has also pulled some of the criticism in the coach’s direction.  But Stansbury is sticking by Sidney and his own handling of the player.  Yesterday, he made that clear as he rattled off word after sentence after paragraph about the situation.

“There’s nothing left out there that can be said that hasn’t been said,” Stansbury said.  “And that’s okay.  Like him and I have talked about, a lot of (the criticism is) warranted. … Is it fair?  Naw.  You and I can’t always judge what’s fair or right or wrong.  But all those things we’re talking about, you have an opportunity to change them all.”

The coach also said people don’t grasp that “even though he’s working harder than he’s ever worked, it wasn’t good enough.”  Stansbury believes Sidney is learning from the criticism — something he’s not been used to receiving.  “… I think he’s using it all the right way, and I think I see some progress from him.”

Here’s hoping the coach is right.
