LSU’s Robinson Heads To UNC

The coaching dominoes continue to fall post-signing day.  LSU  special teams coordinator Joe Robinson is leaving LSU to take over as North Carolina’s D-line coach.  Robinson also helped to coach the Tigers’ defensive line.

“Joe Rob did a great job coaching our special teams in his three years with us,” Les Miles said in a press release.  “We wish Joe and his family great success in their future endeavors.”

LSU’s special teams units were the best in the SEC last year.  The Tigers led the league in kickoff coverage and punt returns.  As The Baton Rouge Advocate points out, LSU gave up only 59 return yards on 68 punts all season.

Robinson also had special teams standouts like kicker Josh Jasper and return man Patrick Peterson at his disposal.  Peterson had two punt returns for touchdowns on the season with one of those coming in the Tigers’ opener… against North Carolina.

At LSU, Robinson shared D-line duties with Brick Haley.

Miles said he will not be in a rush to find a replacement.
