L’affaire Kouandjio Rolls On

According to The Tuscaloosa News, five-star offensive lineman Cyrus Kouandjio is still weighing his options when it comes to his collegiate home.  Auburn (whom he committed to on signing day), Alabama and Iowa are the finalists.  That’s according to the player’s father.

“He’s still confused,” Jean Claude Kouandjio told the paper late yesterday.  “We keep talking with him.  I don’t think he’s ready yet.  He’s the one who wants more time.”

The player told The Washington Post yesterday that New Mexico is back in the race and Iowa is out.

There is currently no timetable for Kouandjio’s decision though his father said, “I’m hoping that it will be as soon as possible.”  Even the much-discussed family vote that was planned for Thursday failed to produce a final decision.  “I told him to go to school, quiet his mind, forget about it… and we will talk about it after school,” the elder Kouandjio said.

Kouandjio’s coach told The Tuscaloosa News that the player did speak with Gene Chizik yesterday.  “They had a conversation and Cyrus said the he just wasn’t ready to make the decision yet.”  The Washington Post has reported that the player also spoke with Nick Saban yesterday.

While Kouandjio struggles with his decision, fans of UA and AU continue to campaign in website comment boxes across the internet.

“Blood is thicker than water,” say most Bama fans, referring to Kouandjio’s older brother, Arie, who is already on Alabama’s team.  (For the record, the father has said, “The best thing would be to go to his brother.  His brother is already on the field.  We know about the coaches.  We know about Alabama.”)

Many Auburn fans — writing as if Kouandjio is actually reading their remarks — are complaining that the young man isn’t being allowed to make up his own mind.  “Auburn is the place for you.”

What’s silly, of course, is that for all we know New Mexico would actually be the best fit for the young man.  When it comes to recruiting, we look only at on-field football results (through our own lenses) when we decide what’s right for a high schooler.

But the player is not only picking a football team, he’s picking a place to live, a school, a support staff, and a launching pad for his future.

The only thing more bizarre than Kouandjio’s delay is the “I know what’s best for you” remarks being made by Southern football fans who know not one solitary thing about the player… other than the fact that he’s got five stars beside his name.

(Sidenote — Kouandjio told one website that 2,500 text messages were sent to his phone yesterday.  Ridiculous.)

As far as Auburn championships go. Auburn has the strongest claim to the years 1913, 1957, 1983, 2004 and 2010.
That is 5 Championships. bama also has 5 championships. Minority claims dont count. bama can claim 1925, 1961, 1979, 1992 and 2009. ONLY.

The NCAA recognized no championships. Not the AP the Coaches nor the BCS or any other. It says so on the NCAA site.
That being said alabama has 5 real championships. The rest are MINORITY claims.

okay I was trying to be civil but I see you Auburn fans can not be so when you have proof from the NCAA or some other proof please post it on her so we all can see, otherwise I have no reason to believe a fan base who talks more about their rival then there own team. Second, its sad that you people LIE about Nick Saban why? he has won every place he's coached, not many off field problems, and has brought us back to the top of college football. So please enjoy your title, you deserve it but dont forget even if we did "lie" we still have more titles than your school. Were here to stay and will be fighting for titles every year in the near future so Bama fans dont entertain these losers cause when Iron Bowl 2011 comes around we will see who comes out on top ROLL TIDE you barners

FACTS: Bama blatantly lies about its national championships. Exhibit A: One year Bama finished 20th in the AP poll, lost to Mississippi State (who won the SEC), and there were 14 teams in the country with better records. Bama still somehow claims they were national champs -- pathetic yet hilarious!

MORE FACTS: Saban forces players out using medical scholarships. Saban lies about grayshirting and pulls scholarships out from under kids right before classes start. Marcell Dareus was paid. Bama is currently on probation for cheating. Auburn is not.

End of fact recitation.

Obviously the kid just wants to go to Auburn but he's feeling the pressure from his family and from certain interests in Tuscaloosa. Too bad, I feel for him. And people discussing Cam need to remember that Cam explicitly authorized his dad to make the decision for him. Cyrus clearly made the decision himself and now is having the screws put to him by his dad. Really a shame.

Alabama or Auburn is a legitimate coin toss as far as programs and proximity to family for the kid. But what does New Mexico have to offer besides beautiful scenery and an empty stadium. One of the worst football programs in the nation, just sayin'.

yes....i was reading a book the other day. it just came out and it explains how most claims to championships aren't real

It said bama is the worst for claiming bogus championships. No school claims more-- though there are many schools who claim bogus championships bama is the absolute worst. it said 8 are bogus of thew 13 claims.

All of you missed the whole point...the point is whatever school this guy picks is getting a great player but the other school will be just fine. Sure I dislike auburn more than anything but Bama fans lets let them talk all they want, they beat us fair in square. WE LOST They have bragging rights but I know with the players we have now (cryus, J clown would be bonus) and the coaching staff we will have a great chance to win every year. Our history speaks for itself no need to defend our GREAT school

I don't care what he does. I don't know him, I don't know what is best for him or what he wants. I do believe a parent should have a say in it. simply because caring parents will not do anything that will hurt their child. Now, in Cam's position his father tried to sell him to the highest bidder and supposedly without Cam's knowledge. When I was a child, I basically knew what my parents were up to nothing... illigal but things they didnt want us, children to know about Odd to me that a close GOD fearing family as the Newton's seem to be.. how could Cam not have known. All this is behind us. People quit saying what he should do. Let Cyrus do what he wants or his parents want him to. After all they do have to sign too. I truly believe if Cyrus wants to sign with Auburn or Iowa or New Mexico then his parents will back him. But then again, I dont know them or Cyrus and my oppinion like everyone's opinion means absolutely nothing except to our self and those that agree with us
