Clowney Shows His Rear By Not Sharing College Decision Till Monday

Assistant coaches for Clemson, South Carolina, Alabama and many others have all invested countless hours recruiting top national prospect Jadeveon Clowney.  His arrival on a college campus — if he lives up to his billing — will no doubt make a big impact on the lives of the coaches who sign him.  And on those who lose out.

Too bad then that Clowney — who says he decided three days ago where he’s going to sign — is keeping his trap shut and doing a disservice to those who’ve recruited him.  On Monday he’ll let the world and those who’ve recruited him know of his decision.  Not before.

Clowney has told his mother, but “She ain’t going to tell anybody.”

What she should be telling her son is to show some humility and make his announcement already.  To unnecessarily drag the process out even further reeks of hubris.  It’s a clear statement to the world, “I’m special and you’ll wait for me.”  That attitude, of course, is already prevalent in the world of amateur athletics so Clowney’s actions should surprise no one.

Clowney appears to be an incredible talent.  We’ll see once he gets onto a campus if he’s got an attitude to match.

The defensive end from Rock Hill, South Carolina has said he based his decision on “who I felt at home around the most and how I’m going to feel when I’m playing with people. … I was laying down one night and came up with the decision and said, ‘That’s where I’m going to to go,’ and told my mother.”

Too bad he’s going to wait a few more days to tell everyone else.  And too bad his mother is letting him disrespect the coaches who’ve already spent months kissing his tail.

Clowney played on a 3A high school team. Who even knows what he can do against the best of 4,5 and 6A O Linemen he'll be up against? How many times has a high school player touted as "the best ever" been a bust for their team? I remember several. Wherever he goes, he's got some attitude adjustment to do. If SC, Spurrier's gonna bust that ass if he's mouthy. If Alabama, give me a break....Saban putting up with a 17 year old smartass? I Don't think so!

Raise your hand if you know:

-why he delayed signing
-whether he has really informed the involved coaches
-anything certain about his character

I mean things you know, not what you read on some website.

I am an Alabama fan and I hope he picks us but I really don't think he will. Then again I have had a theory for a while now that maybe he doesn't want to chose one rival over the other and instead chooses Bama and shocks everybody. He has said several times how he has made REALLY good friends with coaches on SC and Clemson, that plus pissing off half the state if he chooses the wrong side might effect his decision. Why not piss them all off and come to Alabama!!!

I could careless where this guy goes, and maybe i will regret that being that i'm an LSU fan, but still you can't deny that some of these kids think just because they were awesome in high school everyone should just bow down to them i personaly think he is being arrogant in making everypne wait, all that bull about espn and pressconference and pressure is just people making an excuse for his arrogance. Oh well "it is what it is"

I am gonna have to go with TommyP here. This KID (and I stress kid) is trying to make the biggest decision of his young life right now. Clemson came into the mix and added some cpmlexity and he is trying to sort out a lot of things trying to decide what is best for he...and his family mind you. Not to mention he is doing it in front of a national stage. and yes, there may be a bit of hubris involved...but again, let the kid enjoy it. and yes, he is also waiting to announce monday because he has a press conference set up with ESPN at his high school. To announce now would be a huge mess (maybe even legal implicatoins??). Relax, we will all know soon enough..and I can't wait to see him and his teamate Gerald Dixon dominate O-lines in eth SEC!!! GO GAMECOCKS!!

TommyP...

It's not inconveniencing me. I don't care where he signs and I'm not actively covering his recruitment by making phone calls to him. But his actions are showing that this player is putting himself ahead of his future team. If his decision was made three days ago, why toy with the lives of the men who have been recruiting him?

As for the site's name, it's a pretty simple five-letter web address that anyone in America can remember. Also, there are three people here who write for the site. It is not and never has been one person calling himself "MrSEC." As we've said on numerous radio shows, if you come to our website everyday, YOU will be MrSEC. We do not like it when people refer to one of us as "MrSEC." We're not that arrogant.

Wow...is this inconveniencing you?

National signing day is the FIRST DAY a recruit may sign a letter of intent. It's not the mandatory time. The kid is signing on what I have heard is his birthday. Chill out... I'm not a SC fan by any measure but to write something like that to bash a high school kid 'cause you feel he hasn't let you know where he's going to college is pathetic.

Hubris? That would be referring to yourself as "Mr. SEC." THAT is hubris.

Haha yall are crazy, did you say the same thing when Tyrelle Pryor waited until MARCH to do it. He is only waiting until monday because ESPN bullied him into the Monday time. He has already stated that he wished he announced on signing day and regrets dragging it out. Leave the kid alone he is 18 and wanted to enjoy the process.

I would withdraw my offer if it was me. Neither school needs this kind of cancer on their team.

Steve...

The decision has already been made. Three days ago. That's was the point of the piece. If Clowney were taking his time struggling with this decision then by all means he should take all the time he needs. But he's not. He's playing this up for the cameras. And he's admitted that.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I wouldn't want to string several groups of coaches along if I'd already made up my mind. And I can guarantee you my parents would not have stood by and allowed me to play the role of prima donna.

It is inconveniencing the teams, coaches and fellow players. Three coaches are having to hold a scholarship for him, then we question over signing. The real problem is what if the top 10 or top 20 decide to wait. The you have coaches not knowing what there rosters will be like and three star players seeing who is going to have a scholarship. Tyrelle Pryor was criticized, the NCAA even considered changing the rules because of him. As for breech of contract, If ESPN has a deal with him or his family that is a violation, he would be considered ineligible. Lebron James, a proven professional, has been lambasted by everyone for it, so why should we give an unproven high school player a pass. From what I have read this is a good kid, but the more we let recruiting become a look at me show the more problems we are gonna see. These kids are evaluated starting there JR year. They have plenty of time enjoying the experience.

Pryor was playing on a championship basketball team and did not want to detract from it.--unlike this kid who is busy taking pictures and signing auto-graphs. Azz-clown.
